Thorlo’s Thin Cushion Walking Sock Review

Best Golfing Shoes, Golf Game, Golf Shoes

Are you a walker? Walking is an excellent form low-impact exercise. My husband and do a lot of walking, especially when we play golf. The course we have a season membership at is very hilly, and we certainly get a work out during our golf game.

Because we have had such a warm summer, I have found that many of the socks in my sock drawer aren’t suitable for walking around a golf course on a hot day. Then I found Thorlo’s socks at WalMart, and since they come with a “30 Day Money Back Guarantee, 30 Day No Risk Trial”, I had nothing to lose.

What attracted me to these socks, despite their high price tag (one pair was $11.00, on sale at WalMart). Thorlo’s states that these socks were
designed for Women who prefer a lighter weight product for fitness walking or just taking a stroll. Coolmax® construction wicks moisture better; feet feel cooler.

Most of my socks were simply too tight to fit comfortably in my Nike Golf Shoes, and some thinner socks that I purchased specifically for wearing during a golf game were too thin, which can result in blisters. Believe me, you don’t want to get blisters when you like to play golf several times a week!

The Thorlo’s Thin Cushion Walking Sock felt quite thin in the store, so I was a little skeptical that it would provide the kind of protection it claims for walkers. Thorlo’s tag line is “Your Feet Will Feel Better”, which is quite a claim, and since they back it up with a satisfaction guarantee, I guess they are pretty confident in their products.

Although they feel thin at the top of the sock (these are lower profile socks with a very short cuff), there is extra padding in the arch area, giving pretty good support. The nylon lycra that the bulk of the sock is made from gives what Thorlo’s terms an isotonic anatomical fit.

The sock is thicker in the heel to give added protection from blisters, and the Coolmax design means these really do wick away moisture so at the end of my golf game my socks are not wringing wet! Even thinner socks worn during a golf game on a hot day have resulted in damp socks, which can contribute to blisters. I hate wet socks, so the Thorlo’s technology is a very welcome addition to my golf attire!

The socks are made from 72% Coolmax cotton, 26% nylon, and 2% spandex. They are very comfortable on, and they are thin enough to allow me to tie up my golf shoes without loosening up my laces, yet thick enough in the right areas that they prevent blisters from forming, and they don’t slide down on me when I am walking around! I hate socks that don’t stay up, and it’s embarrassing to have to stop on the golf course to fix your socks.

These socks have a stripe that goes under the middle of the foot that is a little bit tighter than the rest of the sock, which helps them to stay in place. The only other sock I have found with this feature are my Dr. Scholl’s socks for diabetes.

I was so intrigued with the Thorlo’s brand, (I had never heard of them before), that I visited their website, and learned that they also make socks specifically for golfers!! I am anxious to give them a try too and see if there is even more improvement, although these Thin Cushion Walking Socks would be hard to beat.

Sizing is quite standard, a size small sock will fit a women’s shoe size 5-6 1/2, a medium size sock will fit a shoe size of 7-9, and the large sock size is designed for a shoe size of 9 1/2-11 1/2.

To conclude, the Thorlo’s socks are more expensive, but if I want quality I always expect to pay more for it. If you are a walker looking for a good sock that will both support your feet and keep them cool in the hot summer months, you might want to look into getting a Thorlo’s brand sock. Since they have a money back guarantee, you have nothing to lose but your sore, wet feet!
