Themes and Game Ideas for a Tea Party

Sweet Bread, Thank You Letters

Any reason is reason for a tea party. The purpose of a tea party is to unite friends, socialize and leave feeling positive about the event. Hopefully you and your guests will get to know each other a little bit better and the seeds of friendship grow.

The list of possible themes for a tea party is endless. The great part is that if the focus of the party matches the personality of your guests then the event is sure to be a success.

First identify the age group. Is it children, teens, young adults, grown adults? If children and adults are together set up different activities so that your guests are socializing with their peers.

Second identify common interests. This could be a toy, a movie, a location or an accessory, Narrow down your choices by choosing the one that best suits you and your guests; for theme examples: teddy bears, Harry Potter, Hawaii, or hats.

Third create activities and games using your theme as the focal point. One good game is to have your guests draw a number as they arrive. The numbers can put your guests in an order of who will go first and who will go second when you play your games. This is useful if your guests are shy, Numbers can be used in a drawing for a prize, drawn for a show and tell order. Guessing games are good too, guess how many marbles are in a jar, how many pairs of shoes the host or hostess owns. Give small prizes to the winners.

It is good to have an activity that guests may begin working on while they are waiting for everyone to arrive or as a filler in between games. Art and craft activities are fun and thought provoking. Plus, it gives your guests a personalized creation they can bring home.

Four prepare tea selection. I suggest having caffeine and caffeine free tea for your guests. Don’t forget the milk and honey or sugar. It is also nice to enjoy a treat such as sweet bread, cookies or brownies.

Five plan about two to three hours for your tea party during an afternoon you have free.

Six write your Invitations!!! Have them mailed out a week prior to your event. State the theme, time and location. Ask your guests to RSVP so that you may plan the event accordingly.
Seven write a shopping list for tea, snacks, prizes and party favors.

Eight prepare the tea party by setting up enough seats for your guests. Prepare the games and write down the estimated time schedule for your activities.

Nine when your guests arrive have them pick a number and begin working on the creative activity. When your guests have arrived and finished the activity play a game or two before preparing the tea and snack. Enjoy conversation and tea. Play another game giving prizes to the winners. Then give party favors to all of your guests. And the tea party has come to an end.

Ten send out thank you letters to those who attended your tea party.

This event should feel warm and inviting for those who attend. If it is your guests will have fun. Make them feel welcomed and give them time to get to know each other and your self. Don’t let the party drag on but also don’t let your schedule be the end to a fun atmosphere. Keep in mind that your focus is to meet with friends and socialize. The theme is just an excuse to loosen up and spark creative conversation or maybe motivate your guests to win a prize. It is your tea party and everyone wants it to be a success.
