The Strip in Virginia Beach, Virginia

The Strip

Ah the strip. Everyone loves the sound that sentence gives off when another person asks you if you want to “cruise the strip”. It brings about the feeling of adventure and a bit of Las Vegas for the night or early evening. The only downfall of going to the “strip” in most cases around the world and especially in Virginia, is it’s very crowded and people are always trying to sell you something.

Aside from the witty comments of the sales clerks and overall friendly store owners found at the strip, the sites of it are bar none; spectacular. The strip is lined with art work and signs that can give you the feeling of a store found near the beaches of California to the buzzing nightlife found in Las Vegas. The stores range in products as well. You can visit a tattoo parlor and end up walking out with a new pair of theatrical contacts instead of a picture of your beloved or a skull on your arm.

Prices though, are a bit more than any local or “normal” business. Tourists, residents, and even people just stopping by as a treat for visiting a friend normally do not seem to mind the inflated prices since the stores and scenery have so much to offer in return. Stores do run specials periodically such as “half off everything in the store for that day only.

There are many restaurants and places to relax when visiting the strip. Some are known throughout the country such as red Lobster and you can even find a Taco Bell not to far away. The prices are the same as any other establishment and have always included a view of the outside pedestrians.

Aside from walking the strip, you can drive it but it will be a bit slower than walking. Normally it is packed full of people, so never be in a rush when it comes to driving this luxurious strip.

Virginia Beaches strip also has a very unique and rather odd law, however, enforced at all times. You can notice signs that have that ever lovely circle with a line through it with miscellaneous letters and symbols in the middle. At first one would be confused and curious to the site of the numerous amounts of these signs. Simply put, there is absolutely no tolerance to cursing of any type, out on the strip.

The local law enforcement has even gone to the extremes of renting out apartments that over look the strip and listen in to see if any one goes about swearing. It comes with a very hefty fine when caught and will cost you no less than $50 big ones at any time. Many say this is just a way to enforce an old law of the state of Virginia, then again, no one knows for sure why it is really there.

Overall, the strip found in Virginia Beach is a fun and exciting way to spend the afternoon, time after work, or a night out perusing. As long as you don’t swear you should still come home with some money in the morning.
