The Proactiv Skin Care System

Proactiv, Skincare, Skincare Products

If you have acne and have tried different skincare products, you have probably heard about Proactiv. Proactiv skincare products claim to be “Proven treatment for preventing your acne”. Not only do Proactive skincare products claim to be proven, the Proactiv website boasts a 60 day money back guarantee. Proactiv offers ‘proven’ results and a money back guarantee, they also have some beautiful stars like Vanessa Williams, Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Love Hewitt promoting their products.

What Is The Proactiv Skincare System

The three step Proactiv skin care system starts with the renewing cleanser. The Proactiv renewing cleanser is oil free, contains benzoyl peroxide, and micro cleansing beads. The trial package comes with 2 ounces of the renewal cleanser which is supposed to last 30 days. I found the cleanser thin and sandy feeling due to the micro beads. I used the recommended dime sized amount and did not feel as if I could clean my entire face with such a small amount. I have used other products in this small of an amount with ample coverage but the Proactiv renewal cleanser did not cover as well. After using the renewal cleanser, I did not get a clean feeling on my face.

The second step of the Proactiv skincare system is the revitalizing toner. The two ounces of toner were plenty and I used it for 14 days with even more than half left over. The toner left my skin feeling cleaner and refreshed but not anymore than my current Clinique toner. I have used toner’s in the past that make my skin feel extremely dry. The Proactiv toner left my skin feeling refreshed but not overly dry.

The final part of the 3 step Proactiv skincare system is the repairing lotion. The repairing lotion also contains benzoyl peroxide which is an ingredient often used to reduce the appearance and breakout of acne. Proactiv boasts that it has prescription strength benzoyl peroxide yet it only has 2.5% benzoyl peroxide and my over the counter brand has 10% benzoyl peroxide. The trial size repairing lotion is 1 ounce and the directions say to apply the lotion to the affected area, in a thin layer, and do this twice per day. Unfortunately for me, I have breakouts across my entire face so I used up most of the repairing lotion in a little over two weeks.

Does The Proactiv Skincare System Work

The Proactiv Skincare System did not work for me. I have had acne problems for about 20 years now and although my face clears up for a while, my acne problems always come back. I always have at least one tiny breakout and at times I have multiple breakouts at one time across my face and neck. After years of frustration, the infomercials finally worked and I put in my first order for the 3 step Proactiv skincare trial system.

I was excited when I received my trial package and used it immediately since I was in the middle of a harsh breakout. I was disappointed after the first couple days to see no improvement at all. I also have to admit that I wanted to give Jessica Simpson a piece of my mind. I read the directions over and over again to make sure I wasn’t doing something wrong, I wasn’t. It was clear after about two weeks and no improvement at all that the Proactiv skincare system was not going to work for me.

Unfortunately, I neglected to realize that when you order Proactiv trial package you are getting the club member price. This of course means that you are now a Proactiv skincare system club member. It appears that, to get the prices that you see on TV, you have to be a club member! Club membership means that they automatically send you a new order every 60 days. You can change when they send your new order to be longer or sooner depending on your needs. You can also easily cancel at any time which is what I forgot to do.

Although Proactiv did not work for me, I gave my friends daughter (who is 11) what I had left of my trial package and she loved it. She said that it was the first thing that cleared up her acne for good. I was happy to hear that the product did not go to waste. Per the Proactiv claims, I could have asked for a money back guarantee but after they take out shipping and handling, it was better to let a friend try it free.

If you remember, I had also forgotten to cancel my club membership. Proactiv sent me out a 60 day supply of their skincare system and the cost was around $50 charged to my credit card. I called about a refund but was told the 60 day money back guarantee does not apply to my second order (my first was the trial.) I tried to tell them how it did not work for me but I found them a new customer by giving it away but they still would not offer a refund. In the end I was able to sell my accidental order for $5 more than I paid for it on Ebay. It was a better deal that way since I did not loose my shipping and handling.
