Jessica Wild has truly blossomed since being on season two of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Jessica is making music and touring the world bringing her songs and drag show to new and old fans alike. Soon we will know if Jessica Wild will be on the All Star edition of RuPaul’s Drag Race. While we wait let’s check in with the one and only, Jessica Wild.
Abby: Jessica Wild, do you like it wild?
Jessica: I really like it wild. And you can find my single, You Like It Wild on iTunes and Amazon, and you’re going to realize how wild I am.
Abby: So speaking of singles… are you single?
Jessica: Yes, I’m single. I’m available to threesomes… no. I’m available to meet that prince that I’m waiting for since a long time ago. Some people think I don’t have time, or I just want to party or something. It’s like waiting for a great person who can support my career and my life. So I’m available. I don’t want to be a single lady any more.
Abby: So why did you choose to live in Boston, Massachusetts?
Jessica: Because Boston has amazing people. I love the clubs that I work. When I came here after all this, RuPaul’s Drag Race, the tour, and everything, I decided Boston because it’s one of the most beautiful cities. I’m really happy. Boston gave me a lot of opportunities, and I’m very thankful for that.
Abby: Do you think that if you’d grown up in Boston, Massachusetts, as opposed to Puerto Rico, that we would have gotten to meet Jessica Wild?
Jessica: I think yes, because I’m working so hard just to make people know who I am. I’m Jessica Wild for the person I am, not for the place that I was born. But, the thing is, Puerto Rico gave me an extra push because a lot of people love my island and my culture. It’s something that I can share with people here. I think that God put me in the place that he wants me, and he did a great job.
Abby: When you were in Puerto Rico you did a few TV shows.
Jessica: Yes, Puerto Rico opened a lot of doors for me. I started doing drag when I was 18. I’m going to be 32 in June. In Puerto Rico, they love my show, they feel love in me. I meet a lot of amazing Latino artists, singers and actors. That’s why I think that RuPaul’s Drag Race saw that we need Jessica Wild on the show because she has the spirit and a really great fan base in Puerto Rico.
Abby: You did very well on RuPaul’s Drag Race. Who did you want to see win on seasons one through four?
Jessica: Season one I wanted Nina Flowers, that’s for sure. Season two I wanted Jessica Wild. But season two was, wow, because I was with Jujubee, Raven and Morgan. I spent time with the girls, but of course I wanted to be the winner. Season three, I was rooting for Yara Sofia because she’s my sister and she’s amazing but the same time, I really love Manila. For me, it was like Manila had a great opportunity to be the winner. Season four, I’m pretty sure Sharon Needles is going win that because she’s doing an amazing job. I’d like to see Latrice Royal with the crown because I love Latrice Royal. But I really love Sharon Needles. She’s doing a great job.
Abby: Let’s move on to the All Stars. Which 12 competitors would you like to compete against?
Jessica: Wow. You know that All Stars is going to be the big battle. That’s going to be crazy. Any of the girls, they are ready. Because if you were on Drag Race one time, the second chance you’re going to kill it even if you’re the first one to leave the competition. So I know any of the girls, whoever they are going to choose, I need to be careful because it’s going to be a really wild competition. I want to have next to me Raven, Jujubee, Morgan, Yara Sofia, Nina… I know all those girls are going to work it out. It’s going to be a fierce competition for me. But they deserve to be part of the All Stars. I know people want to see a big battle. Girls like Raven, Jujubee, Nina, Pandora are going to be fierce. For me all the seasons together all in one, but it’s going to be like a soap opera if they put all those girls together. It will be too much TV. There really are a lot of girls that should be part of the All Stars and have a second chance.
Abby: Do you think the winners of the previous seasons should compete and risk their crowns?
Jessica: No. My personal opinion is that I don’t want to see the winners on this show because they won. If they are the winners, they don’t need to be there. People just want to see the first runner up or whatever, other girls trying to be the winners.
Abby: Do you think that the former winners should come back as judges?
Jessica: Oh, yes! I think the show can use other girls in a lot of things because we are traveling around the world. People love us. People want to see us. People want to have us on TV all the time. That’s the truth. So I think they can give the chance to the queens to judge because they know what they need to be the winner.
Abby: So if you’re back on Drag Race, would you do anything differently?
Jessica: Yes, because I was scared the first time. With my English… like right now, my English is not perfect, but I don’t care. At that point in my life, I was really scared. I was like, Oh, my god. I’m shy person. You know Jessica and David are different, and I think I mix both on TV because I was out of drag. I like to work in my own space, relax. I don’t like to bother other people. I don’t like problems. And on TV you need to give drama, you need to give a lot of things. I think I’m going to be available not to make like a street fighter on TV, but I can have better confidence. I’m going to have amazing outfits. At that point, people didn’t know a lot of things behind the scenes. Like when they called me, it was a horrible moment in my life. No outfits. I lost my job at that point and was starting a new one. I was scared with my language. It was a lot of things.
Abby: Were you living in Puerto Rico at the time?
Jessica: Yeah, when they called me, I was there. I did the auditions just to have an opportunity. I did the auditions – yeah, I want to be part of this, but I never thought they were going to call me. I wanted to make friends, I wanted the opportunity. But then I saw that everything starts getting serious. They called me; people vote, people talk, and I was like, Oh, my god. When I realized you are RuPaul’s Drag Race, I was “Please, God, help me to survive.” And he did. I’m very happy with the things that I did. But if I come back, you are going to see a stronger Jessica Wild.
Abby: A wilder Jessica Wild?
Jessica: A wild, wild, wild, wild Jessica Wild, and extra wild.
Abby: You also have a huge drag cruise coming up in December to Honduras, Belize and Mexico. What can you tell us about it?
Jessica: Well, that cruise is going to be really, really huge, because half of all the queens from all of the seasons together. So I think a lot of fans are going to be there. We have a lot of shows. We have a lot of meet and greets. It’s going to be crazy just to have the four seasons out to sea. I expect the biggest party ever.
Abby: I’m looking forward to it.
Jessica: Oh, so you’re going to be there?
Abby: Oh, yes, ma’am.

Abby: Tell me about your latest song Maquillaje. What does maquillaje mean?
Jessica: Maquillaje is makeup. The song talks about transformation as a human being, talking about the LGBT community and about how powerful we can be. You can do whatever you want. But the writer of the song put that title thinking this is cool because it sounds catchy. My friend Fedro always has makeup; he’s a famous Mexican singer. His sexuality is open; he told everybody he’s gay, kind of like Adam Lambert for Latinos. It’s an amazing song that talks about how powerful I can be as a drag queen, and he as a boy, and we can do whatever we want. We are like a beautiful bird from the paradise. I don’t know in American culture, but Latinos always compare gays with birds trying to make us look like “oh, you’re birds, you’re gay.” So on the song we talk about we are birds from the paradise; amazing, beautiful birds. It’s kind of attacking how people talk about us.

Abby: Have you ever used any other drag names or have you always been Jessica Wild?
Jessica: Yes, since I was born.
Abby: So what is a typical day as Jessica like?
Jessica: I always have 2-3 hours with myself, my notebooks, and my music. My notebooks make me excited because I put all my dreams there, and then I can read and check that I did this and this and this, and I wrote this a long time ago. I love to go to the gym and spend time with my friends. I love to have a good movie, check the internet to see what my friends write to me and do interviews like this one, amazing. But the greatest is when I have the time to be in my apartment with my friends and talk, and feel that I’m with my family.
Abby: Did you come from a big family?
Jessica: It’s big if I count my aunts, cousins and everything, then it’s a big one. But at home, I have one brother and one sister, my dad and my mom, and three beautiful nephews. But my brother and my mother and my sister, they support me a lot. My mom and dad have supported me since I was born. That’s why, I come from a strong family. I have a beautiful relationship. I think that’s why I can give beautiful things to others because I learned that at home. And the thing is, they are proud of me. So I feel like, “Wow, I’m doing something good.” I’m proud of myself. If you go into my house, I came from the mountains. I came from the forest like Tarzan. And right now I’m traveling around the world. My mom sometimes calls me the butterfly. Where’s my butterfly?” “I’m in San Francisco.” “Where’s my butterfly today?” “I’m in Los Angeles, Mommy.” So for her, I’m a butterfly that is flying everywhere. We have a beautiful relationship, me and my family.
Abby: I am looking forward to see what Jessica Wild, the butterfly does next.
Jessica: I’m going to keep doing this tour around the world because I want to meet all those fans out there that want to see me. And I’m going to keep growing in my career. Drag Race was something that helped me jump from my island around the world. Sometimes people say “Drag Race is over, now everything is over.” No. People are going to have a lot of surprises from Jessica Wild.
