Are you looking for a relaxing day out in Chicago, but are really unsure where to go? No worries because I know the perfect relaxing day trip for you and your family. This place is called, “The Morton Arboretum,” and it is a place where trees and nature flourish and grow in many different varieties. If you love being outdoors and love nature this is defiantly a must see place in Chicago.
The Morton Arboretum is a huge 1,700 acre forest filled with gardens, lakes, prairies, and little streams with tons of different species of trees, flowers, vines, and bushes. Throughout The Morton Arboretum there are several trails to walk you through the beautiful forest and gardens so you can visit each plants habitat and learn about each plant and how they grow, but as you walk through you want to make sure to stop and tilt your head back once and awhile to catch a glimpse of some of the wild birds that sit and fly among the trees and vegetation. It definitely feels like a magical place when you enter The Morton Arboretum’s gardens and forests.
When you first get to The Morton Arboretum you will see a building called the visitor center where you can get a map of all the trails and important information about The Morton Arboretum. It is also a place where the staffs who work there help arrange tour groups and activities for all ages, and is the place you would go if you needed tickets or season passes for any of the big events that happen in the park throughout the year. This is also the place where you pay the fee to get into their park ground, which is usually nine dollars for adults, six dollars for youths, and free if under three, and get the hours they are open to, which is usually 7 am to 7 pm.
Now as you walk out the doors of the visitor center you will notice the gardens and the trials as well as gardeners out maintaining the beautiful plants and trees throughout the place. You will also see activities going on outside that you can participate in such as planting a tree or some flowers in one of their beautiful gardens or forests. Other things you may notices while you’re outside exploring or small buildings. These small buildings are where some college student’s study how the plant and trees grow in different environments, and other buildings are tree clinics where you can actually bring a plant or tree in to be identified or to help the tree grown and get rid of disease that might be growing on it. Some buildings are little museums filled with information that you might be interested in knowing about the plants and tree growing in The Morton Arboretum.
If you have small children The Morton Arboretum has tons of little gardens, trees, and streams to explore, play and enjoy. There are even little huts and houses to hide in for a fun game of hide and seek. There is no cost to get into the children’s garden at all and is even free for adults. I guarantee you your little ones wont get board in the children’s area since it is four acres of fun activities.
Another neat place to check out while you’re at The Morton Arboretum is the library. The library there has art work of different species of trees, insects, birds, and animals displayed. There are even small activities to do and tons of information books to read on the plants, trees, and animals that are in The Morton Arboretum. It’s defiantly a really cool place to check out.
