Want to try wearing a real corset? The cheaply made “corsets” from lingerie web sites aren’t real corsets, and aren’t real fetish wear. Real corsets don’t come in sizes S, M and L. They’re made according to a series of measurements including bust, waist and hip measurements. Many women want to try wearing corsets but don’t know where or how to buy them. There are some reliable Internet sites that will make custom corsets and sell authentic corsets. Not every corset has to be custom made in order to fit well, going by a basic set of measurements should be enough for most women to find a corset that can be adjusted to fit them although plus size women might need to have their corsets specially made. Starkers corsets are hand made by Dianna DiNoble. Based in Toronto, Starkers is a Gothic clothing institution that has been around for more than a decade. Starkers sell beautiful Gothic clothing as well. All Starkers corsets are hand made. Customers who live locally can have custom fittings done but customers can order custom made corsets by using the guide on the Starkers website to take a series of measurements from which the corset will be made. Starkers corsets are extremely high quality, and customers can mix and match designs and choose their own materials from rich brocades, silks, and satins to leather and PVC. Depending on the style, material and size Starkers corsets range in price from around $350 to around $500. Starkers corsets are some of my favorite corsets.

2. Silks and Velvets by Yosa
Yosa works exclusively on the Web, and all her corsets are custom made. Yosa specializes in making Renaissnace style corsets and gowns and her corsets are extremely popular for weddings. Yosa also makes some interesting Cyber wear including a Cyber corset with LED panels and light reflective trim. Customer can choose a style and fabric, customers can even supply their own fabric if there is a special fabric they want to use. Yosa’s website has a measurement guide to explain how to take the necessary measurements and send them to her. A deposit is required, and corsets usually take at least six weeks to make so if you want to order a corset for a wedding or event, be sure to order early. Her designs are beautiful, but costume like and more appropriate for a Renaissancee Fair or wedding than a night out at a club or fetish event. Prices for Yosa’s corsets and gowns start at about $400 and range into the thousands depending on material, size, design, and time frame.

3. Dark Garden
Dark Garden corsets are primarily custom made although they do sell some pre-made corsets. When buying a pre-made corset buy the corset according to the waist measurement not the bust measurement. A good rule of thumb for buying a pre-made corset is to buy a corset that has a waist measurement that when it’s fully closed is 3-4 inches smaller than your normal waist measurement. Dark Garden is another Gothic clothing institution with a reputation for high quality and great customer service. I have always been happy with my corsets from Dark Garden. Dark Garden corsets range in price from around $375 to $700 depending on style, material and size. Dark Garden also has some great tips on wearing and caring for a custom corset on their website.

4.Puimond
Puimond is another Canadian corset designer whose work has been featured in several fetish magazines. Like most other high end corsets, all Puimond corsets are custom made and are available in a choice of fabrics. Prices start at about $400 and go to around $800 depending on style, material and size. Puimond prides himself on designing corsets that retain a sense of nostalgia for corsets of the past but focus on innovative, slightly futuristic designs.

Not ready to plunge into an expensive custom made corset? Alter Ego offers well made corsets that are great for those who are new to wearing corsets. Alter Ego corsets are all leather or PVC, and they offer a detailed fit guide to help every women find a great fitting corset. Alter Ego also offers corsets in larger sizes, up to a bust size of 60 inches, so plus size women who have trouble finding corsets may find what they are looking for at Alter Ego. Alter Ego sells exclusively on Ebay, and most of their corsets are under $200, some are under $100.
