The Best Sitcom Couple of the Nineties

David Schwimmer

One of the most memorable sitcoms from the last decade was FRIENDS.The popular show ran for ten years and had captured the hearts of many fans for its engaging story lines and witty jokes. It was a sitcom that simply was popular because it represented a generation that was looking for a voice.Unlike the other great sitcom of that era FRASIER,this show appealed to the masses for its simple approach to life in New York City and the relationships between the six friends.

The most memorable couple during this era arguably remains the on-off relationship between Ross Gellar and Rachel Greene.Ross Gellar was geeky yet adorable.Rachel Greene was blur and gorgeous.Ross had a flame for Rachel since young but was too shy to ever do anything about it.Rachel was simply too ignorant to notice the obvious interest of Ross. Both characters were put through a roller coaster of emotions during the initial first season before both finally getting together.David Schwimmer who played Ross Gellar and Jennifer Aniston who played Rachel Greene were the excellent choices.

One of the most romantic scenes in sitcom history remains to be the moment when couple kissed for the first time inside Central Perk.It remains to be a highlight that many fans at the time felt that could not be achieved. That episode was The One When Ross Finds Out.The brilliance of the show lies in its producers who knew how to leave its audiences in suspense. The couple were on again and off again for the longest time before they finally got together in climatic scene in the second season that started one of the most loved relationships in sitcom history.Every fan of the series will remember the episode that was titled The One With The Prom Video. It was the storyline that truly touched the hearts of many fans and again highlighted wonderful work done by the sitcom writers.

The relationship the two on screen couples delighted most of the fans but it was their break up during the episode The One With The Morning After that remains one of the highlights of the entire series. It was one of the most emotional moments in sitcom history when the couple broke up.It was the moment when Ross went down on his knees to beg Rachel for her forgiveness that the tears started pouring.Unfortunately the break up went ahead. The scene was so intense that both David and Jennifer ended up crying after shooting their scenes. It began a roller coaster ride that that led to the couple getting back together and breaking up almost immediately.Despite their ups and downs in the following seasons,it was clear through out that they were still very much clearly in love with each other. The thing that made the series truly excellent was how the relationship between both Ross and Rachel made people realize the mistakes that we all are capable of making. It made people also realize that two people do not have to be together to truly show that they love each other.

During the final few seasons where the couple had a baby together and even when Rachel had a thing for Joey, there was never a doubt among the writers what the fans were rooting for.The only thing that was tragic yet truly climatic was that the couple finally got back together during the final episode.By then, the excitement and chemistry that had made R&R; so popular had truly fizzled out.Yet for what it was worth, this was a couple that remains arguably the best during nineties.
