The $2 Flatbread Sammies at Quizno’s: Are They Worth It?

Balsamic Vinaigrette, Conscious Consumer, Flatbread, quizno's, Vinaigrette

With almost every fast food chain rolling out ‘value-priced’ menus and burgers for under a dollar, it’s time for sandwich chains to step up to the plate. Quizno’s has recently launched it’s ‘2 Dollar Flatbread Sammies‘, a miniature version of its flatbread sandwiches that contain only 200 calories. These miniature pita-style sandwiches are simply a bite-sized version of the original ‘Sammies’ unveiled in 2007, and presumably designed to capture the health-conscious consumer on a budget. But are the 2 Dollar Flatbread Sammies worth it? Or is it better to just pay a few extra dollars for the life-sized version of the sandwich?

Quizno’s 2 Dollar Flatbread Sammies: What Are Your Options?
The Sammies menu contains six different options, but the 200 calorie Sammie’s are only available in Balsamic Chicken or Black Angus Steak. Both are topped with a vinaigrette dressing, romaine lettuce, tomato, and spices, and wrapped conveniently in pillowy flatbread to form your pseudo-taco/pita sandwich.

Quizno’s 2 Dollar Flatbread Sammies: The Taste Test
The Balsamic Chicken is made with grilled chicken strips, fat-free balsamic vinaigrette, shredded romaine lettuce, diced tomato, and a spice blend. The chicken is the same recipe used in the classic sandwiches and Sammie’s and is flavorful and juicy; still, the serving is so small, that you may miss it amongst the bed of vegetables and dousing of vinaigrette.

The Black Angus Steak is made with strips of black angus steak, fat-free balsamic vinaigrette, shredded lettuce, diced tomato, and a spice blend. This one has slightly more flavor than the Balsamic Chicken, and does have a bit of a ‘kick’ to it with its peppery seasoning. Still, the serving size of meat is relatively small; this one is also just enough to give you a taste of meat amongst the veggies and dressing.

You do have the option to load up on pickles, banana peppers, and other extras from the condiment bar, and this can add some substance to your mini-meal.

Bottom Line: If you’re looking for a low-calorie snack that can tide you over to the next meal, the 2 Dollar 200 Calorie Quizno’s Sammies are a savory option for those days when the next meal is hours away. The hearty eater can probably finish this in about three or four hungry bites; ordering the regular-sized sandwich or Sammies are a far better choice if you’re looking for a meal – and don’t want to order $6+ worth of mini-Sammies to get by. The 2 Dollar 300 Calorie Quizno’s Sammies are simply a convenient, flavorful snack that offers a nice change of pace from your usual granola bars or lowfat potato chips in the mid-afternoon slump.
