About Toufayan Pita Bread

Toufayan Bakeries makes this delicious “hearth baked” pita bread. According to the pita bread packaging, Toufayan Bakeries dates to 1926 and uses “old world recipes,” “top-quality, wholesome ingredients,” and is “naturally cholesterol free and fat free.

I have to agree with the company’s quotes. Toufayan’s pita bread tastes light, clean, and delicious – something that cannot be said for all breads. All bread, of course, is “dry.” But because of the nature of pita bread, you will find yourself wanting to put something moist along with Toufayan’s pita bread; a salad, wet sandwich ingredients, dressing, or cheese will make the pita come alive. In return, Toufayan’s pita bread enhances practically every food I have ever eaten along with it.

While virtually all of the Toufayan pita bread I have had in my life – dozens of loaves over the years – comes in the form of the company’s 2-ounce per serving white loaves (each about 6 inches in diameter and a quarter-inch thick), the decades’-old pita brand serves variations of their pita bread, including wheat pita bread and 1-ounce “Pitettes.

Comparison: Toufayan Pita Bread Versus Toufayan Pitettes

As you will see in the food labels listed below, the Toufayan pita bread and Toufayan Pitettes make 2 very healthy food choices. But don’t think all white pita bread is the same! Compare the white Toufayan pita bread loaves to their smaller white “Pitettes” cousin:

Both packages boast a 2-ounce (56 gram) serving size. A 56-gram serving of Pitettes carries 160 mg of sodium, versus the larger pita’s 56-gram serving weighed down with 225 mg of sodium! Yet, the 56-gram serving of the larger pita bread delivers 2 grams of dietary fiber while the 56-gram serving of Pitettes has just 1 gram of dietary fiber.
