I have made several pairs of pants for me when I was younger. I haven’t sewn a pair of pants from a pattern in years. The last time I made myself a pair of pants was about the time I graduated high school.

Sewing a pair with the use of a pattern isn’t all that hard. I use to could make a pair of pants in a couple of days. This included trimming out the pattern, pinning it to the fabric, cutting the pieces out, and sewing them together on a sewing machine.

I even use to use pairs of pants that were worn out as patterns. I would have to take them apart to have the pattern pieces. These pairs of pants were ones that my mom had bought from the store. Using worn out pairs of pants as a pattern is a great alternative to buying patterns at the store.

Using the pants that need to be taken apart as a pattern may take a little longer, but it’s worth it. I found by doing this, I could sew pairs that I liked and that fit. To some, my pants sewing habits may sound odd or strange. To others, it may sound normal and a thrifty way to sew pairs of pants.

I have thought about going to a thrift store to look through the pants they have in stock and using those as patterns. This would be a fairly cheap way to have a pattern to sew from. This would be even better if I didn’t like the fabric or the color of the fabric the pants were made from.

By making my own pairs of pants from patterns, I could alter them the way I wanted. I could make the legs or waist a little bigger or smaller. I could make the length of the pants longer. I sometimes even moved the zipper from the front to the back and vice versa. I could even add pockets or leave them off completely. I learned a few tricks from my home economics class. I also learned a few other tricks from magazines and books about sewing.

Free Sewing Patterns

Now that I have told you about my sewing habits and how I have made pants from patterns over the years, I best point you to some free sewing pants patterns. These patterns I found through using four different search engines.

Flat Pants Sewing Pattern

I had to scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the pattern. The pattern on this site provides written instructions without a pattern. From reading the introduction and instructions the flat pants seem easy enough to make. These would be great for baby and toddlers still in diapers.

Thai’s Fisherman Pants Sewing Pattern

I have seen pants like these on TV shows and movies. There are only four pieces to cut and sew together. To print the pattern for the Thai Fisherman Pants, right click on the photo of the pattern or save the pattern to the computer or open it in a new window. If the photo is saved to the computer open it and print it out. If it was opened in a new window, print it out from there. After printing out the pattern photo, take it to Kinkos and have them enlarge the pattern to a life size pattern if possible. Be sure to print the instructions before closing the window.

I thought these baby pants were cute. I noticed in the second paragraph there is a PDF for the pants pattern. The PDF baby pants pattern is for the main piece of the pattern. There will be two pieces to cut out from the pattern. There are photo instructions included with the text instructions to help with sewing the baby pants from this sewing pattern.

Burdastyle.com

I try not to include sites my readers have to sign up for, but in this case I felt I needed to make an exception to the rule. After going through a few pages of the list of available patterns, I felt this site was worthy of the addition for free pants sewing patterns. Starting on the second page of the list of patterns, I noticed this site had specific sizes of pants patterns that were free. I noticed a person has to sign up with the site to be able to print the pants patterns. Some of the patterns on this site has to be bought.

I know there isn’t a large selection of links with the free pants sewing patterns. I did want to provide some links that would give my readers a few patterns to use for sewing projects.
