Music seems to be oblivious to the size of its stage or the magnitude of its audience. You really can hear enjoyable summer music without having to get on the highway and travel to a downtown venue . The State of Rhode Island proves this point every summer. Certainly many chose to brave the congestion of I-95 and head for downtown Providence and the music of the capital city. But others have learned that there is a great peace and tranquility that comes from sitting back on a lawn chair or stretching out on an old family blanket and enjoying a free summer concert in a less hectic l setting. . These sites can easily prove the joy of summer concerts in small town, Rhode Island .
Cranston. It’s not the smallest of towns in Rhode Island, but there is a very real difference between Cranston and Providence. The Cranston Parks and Recreation Department has done its part to keep a bit of small town Rhode Island alive each summer by sponsoring an annual series of concerts for local citizens and residents of nearby communities. Beginning on July 5 and continuing on Thursday evenings through August 2 concerts will be held from 6:30- 8 p.m. The July 12 and 19 concerts will be given at Knightsville Gazebo, Phenix Avenue and all other concerts will take place at the William Hall Library on Broad St. You are encouraged to bring the family or friends and enjoy groups like the Mel Tones and the Navy Band Northeast as they entertain and send great music out to you absolutely free.
North Kingstown The North Kingstown Arts Council works to provide the citizens of the community with a variety of activities connected to arts and culture. A favorite is the annual summer concert series. Performances are provided on Tuesday evenings from 7-8:30 p.m. at the town dock area in Wickford. This year’s schedule includes both Big Band and Contemporary sounds and definitely is family friendly. Included in this season’s schedule is “Bandstand Review” and “Black Tie Band”. The convenience of the Tuesday night performance arrangement is that it allows music lovers the option of also finding a concert to attend on the more customary Wednesday evening time slot. The North Kingstown arts Council used good judgment in selecting the site of their concerts as the view from the dock always adds to the overall effect of the concert.
Cumberland, RI. A very unique summer concert series has been prepared for those in the Cumberland, RI area. Three local talents have been drawn together and will play a mini- series of four concerts that they have decided to title ” Acoustic Wednesdays” the Concerts will be given at 6:30 p.m. on July 11 and 25 and August 8 and 22 and will be free of charge to the public. All concerts will be performed at Diamond Hill Park.
The performers are guitarist, Garry Foisy; Pianist, Jennifer Minueto; and violinist, Shayna Gonsalves. All are accomplished musicians in their own right as instrumentalists, vocalists and songwriters. Their combined concert efforts are likely to provide music memories and a pleasant evening for all in attendance.
