Style Guide for Desperate Housewives

Carolina Herrera

As season 6 of Desperate Housewives comes to an end, what better way to celebrate this great show than an analysis of our main character’s styles? What is interesting about their styles is that they are a direct connection to all these women’s personalities. I’ll begin with Lynette Scavo.

Lynette Scavo- business and mommy casual

Lynette’s style varies depends on which season of the show you are watching. If it is during a season when she is working in an advertising agency, then you will often see Lynette in a snazzy suit ready for anything. If it is a season where she is a stay at home mommy well, there isn’t much to Lynette’s appearance. She’ll basically be seen in something comfortable to look out for the kids in. What is great about Lynette’s character is that she is resilient and has overcome many challenges in her life and family. She has dealt with things such as being diagnosed with cancer, helping her husband through a mid-life crisis, and defending her son who was wrongly accused of arson. Lynette’s versatility shows in her style. She is like a chameleon who can shift her wardrobe to the task at hand. Some places that Lynette would probably shop is New York and Company, Ann Taylor, and J. Crew.

Bree Hodge-conservative and proper

Bree is considered super mom on Wisteria Lane. She loves cooking, gardening, and even cleaning. Despite all the hard work Bree does, her style is consistently dressy and conservative. Bree is usually seen in Victorian style shirts that are very elegant and perfectly pressed. Despite Bree’s conservative nature, she is also a business woman who not only owns her own catering company, but has also published her own cookbook that is popular nationwide. Since Bree is always primed and pressed to do the housework, her attire remains consistent, even when she’s handling business. Since Bree is very pale with red hair, she is often seen wearing green, which is the perfect color for her complexion. Her clothes not only resemble her personality, but also complement her features. Bree proves that not only is she successful in her household chores, but her sense of style as well. Some places Bree would probably shop is Ralph Lauren, Prada, and Louis Vutton.

Susan Delfino- fun, sexy, and youthful

Susan has a style that I feel has changed quite a bit since season one. In the first couple seasons she dressed in clothes that made it seem like she was trying to dress younger than her actual age. Now in season six her style seems to be more geared towards her real age. She now dresses trendy and youthful, but still fits her age. Her style is very fitting since she is known as the sensitive and caring housewife who can be a bit clumsy at times. Even with the style change, her wardrobe still showcases her personality. In the first seasons she would always confide with her 14 year old daughter Julie for advice, and the two seemed to be more like sisters than mother and daughter. Once season 5 came out and everything was set 5 years later, Julie was now in college and Susan no longer had her young companion. Since then she seems to dress her own age. Some places Susan would probably shop are Anthropologie, Calvin Klein, and Carolina Herrera.

Gabrielle Solis-sexy glamour

Gabby proves to be a fashion favorite. Since she is a retired runway model, she still has the style of one, along with the sassy attitude. She is often seen wearing heels in just about every episode. Her style is definitely flashier which says a lot about her self-absorbed attitude. But even in Gabby’s selfish decisions such as having an affair with her gardener and blackmailing her husband’s boss for an extra bonus, she does have her compassionate side when it comes to helping her friends. She is also seen wearing designer gowns to special events, her cute jogging suits, and adorable jackets. Gabby would probably shop at stores like Bebe, Cache, and Dolce and Gabbana.
