Stretching Tips to Help Your “Bow N Arrow” Cheerleading Stunt

The “Bow n arrow” cheerleading stunt is one of the more difficult cheerleading stunts to pull off. Here are some stretching tips that you can do in the safety of your home to help (Please note: For safety reasons you should have a stretch before attempting a bow n arrow.):

(All tips are going to assume that you are pulling your bow n arrow with your left leg)

1.)”Stretch from a Stretch stunt position” -Stand on the ground and do stretch stunt (of course with no base under you). Your stretch leg (left) slightly should be slightly forward and your right leg planted on the ground. Now lean down and forward towards this leg (left) and stretch making sure to take deep breaths to relax the muscles and help increase your flexibility. Stretch down for 30 seconds and release, and do this 2-3 times.

2.)”Stretch on the Ground” – When your feel comfortable with your stretch, now lay on the ground on your back. Keep your non stretch leg (right) down on the ground and pull your stretch leg (left) up for the bow n arrow. Grab your left foot with your right hand and pull your left arm through hitting a half a T motion. Your right leg will want to bend and come off the ground, so try to keep it straight as much as possible. If you need some assistance, try to get someone to help keep your right leg down if at all possible.

3.)”Use a spotter” – Now stand up and grab a spotter (friend or family member). Have your spotter place their right hand on your right hip and their left hand out to the left side in preparation to catch your left leg as you pull it. Pull your left leg up to a bow n arrow position. Immediately have your spotter place their left hand on your left calf and help you pull your leg up. Make sure your spotter is placing resistance on your right hip so you don’t fall. Grab your left foot with your right hand and push your left arm through.

4.) “Do it on the ground” Try it by yourself. Stand with your feet together and practice pulling your bow n arrow. Work on grabbing your leg and foot quickly as well as maintaining your balance.

Once you feel comfortable, then you can try it up in the air. Make sure you have the proper spotters and safety personnel on hand before attempting this and any other stunt for safety reasons. Good Luck and happy stunting.
