3 Cute Crayon Crafts

Crayons, Teacher Gifts

Crayons just seem to multiply around my house like rabbits. If you too have boxes and boxes of unused crayons or can’t resist the dollar bin deals, there are some really cute and easy crafts that make colorful gifts for kids or teachers. From practical to fanciful, crayons can create art without ever crossing a piece of paper. With some basic craft supplies and a box of crayons, you make these projects in minutes.

The rainbow desk caddy is really a pot of gold.

Supplies:

One empty, clean peanut or similar canister

One box of crayons

Hot glue gun

Cloth or newspaper to cover surface

Optional: ribbon

After covering your surface and plugging in your glue gun, decide on a color pattern, or whether you want one at all. You can go random or sort by hues. For example, four or each color progressing from lightest to darkness is very attractive.

Make a few zig zag swipes with the hot glue gun from the top the bottom of your canister, adding just four or five crayons at a time before the glue begins to harden. Line the crayons up flat with the bottom and it’s fine that they reach above the top of the canister.

This crayon caddy is really cute as is or you can wrap it with a slim solid ribbon and tie it off with a bow. The handmade desk caddy doesn’t have to hold crayons. It could hold pens, paper clips, notepads or even candies.

This cute recycled craft is a perfect teacher gift or accessory for a kid’s homework desk.

The crayon wreath is really a circle of teacher love.

Supplies:

Round, flat Styrofoam wreath form

2 boxes of crayons

Hot glue gun

Cloth or newspaper to cover surface

Optional: ribbon or wooden ornament

After covering your surface and plugging in your glue gun, once again decide if you want a pattern that alternates or to go random with color. Make glue gun swipes in an s pattern from the outer to the inner part of the wreath covering just a few inches at a time. Start at the top center and keep a consistent length of the end of the crayon, such an inch, hanging over the inner edge of the wreath form.

Add a bow and/or a wooden ornament whether it’s a favorite teacher’s initial, a butterfly, a heart, an earth or a school bus.

Colorful crayon wreaths are adorable teacher gifts and perfect for a nursery or toddler room too.

Say, “you’re special” with a crayon initial gift.

Supplies:

One box of crayons

One 8 x 10 inch frame without glass

Hot glue gun

Cloth or paper to cover surface

8 x 10 inch card stock

8 x 10 inch scrap paper and pencil

Sharp knife

This project takes a little more planning to design the letter but it’s so cool that it’s worth it. Sketch out a rough three-dimensional shape of the initial letter that you would like to create on the scrap paper. In this project some crayons will need to be cut with a sharp knife to design the letter. Each part of the letter should be several crayons thick. Once you are happy with your design, move it and glue it one crayon at a time onto the card stock paper.

Since you don’t want the glass on this framed project, this is a great way to repurpose frames without glass or a great time to find an inexpensive frame at Goodwill. This is a fun project for a kid’s room or a super teacher gift.
