St. Patrick’s Craft Ideas: Golden Shamrock Centerpieces

Shamrocks

Add a bit of flair to your table this St. Patrick’s Day with these adorable golden shamrock centerpieces! Perfect for any St. Patrick’s Day party, this project is inexpensive to create and can also double as a fun party favor.

For this project, you will need:

– 2 1/2 inch by 2 1/2 inch mini terra cotta pots (found in stores or online at Save On Crafts)

– Krylon Brights Paint Pen in Bright Green

– Krylon General Purpose Metallics Paint in Gold Metallic

Masking tape

– Self healing mat

– Craft knife

– Shamrock shaped stencil

– Pencil

– Newspaper

Due to the use of spray paints, it is recommended that your workspace be well ventilated and covered with newspaper for safety and easy cleanup. (Outdoors is preferable.)

Cut three strips of masking tape and lay them vertically together on the self healing mat so that they are touching. Smooth the edges with your fingers to assure one solid sheet of tape together. With the shamrock shaped stencil, trace the image onto the tape in pencil. Using the craft knife, carefully cut the shamrock shape out.

Gently peel the shamrock shape from the self healing mat. Adhere the masking tape shape to the side of the terra cotta pot. Smooth the shamrock to ensure its adherence.

Stuff the terra cotta pot full with excess newspaper to prevent any overspray. Coat the entire outside of the pot with Krylon General Purpose Metallics Paint in Gold Metallic. Let the gold paint dry for fifteen to twenty minutes before adding a second coat. Add a third or fourth coat if desired, and let the pot dry for at least an hour.

Remove the masking tape shamrock and any newspaper from the inside of the terra cotta pot. Fill in the shamrock shape using the Krylon Brights Paint Pen in Bright Green. Let the paint dry for a half hour or longer before filling with goodies and setting on a table center!

TIP: There are many things that these pots can be filled with. Consider St. Patrick’s Day candies, or chocolate peppermints. Or, use gold coin chocolate candies for that “Pot ‘O’ Gold” appeal. If you do not wish to use candy in your centerpiece, emerald or gold colored florist jewels would also work well. Also, feel free to add additional details to your centerpiece with other Krylon paint pens. The only limit is your imagination, so be creative!
