One night while security guards were watching satellite footage they noticed a group of children playing under Pearoyd Bridge. Even stranger than seeing a group of children out at night playing was that the clothes they were wearing looked as those you would have seen in the past, the children did not look like they were from modern times. This prompted the guards to investigate, so they made their way to the bridge. When they arrived they found nothing, not a trace that anyone let alone children had been there, the muddy ground was untouched by feet and no one was around. Also in the same area workmen who were staying in campervans while working on the road reported that they could her children singing at night.

On another night the guards again saw a ghostly appearance on the bridge. When patrolling the area they saw a monk like figure standing on the bridge. This spooky sighting prompted them to call the police who quickly dismissed their report as a joke and told them to find a priest. When the men got this reply they did just as the police said, and the priest called the police. The police now had to give in a go to the site and check it out. When they first arrived they could see nothing but a few minutes later the temperature apparently went very cold and just beside their window they saw a body, clearly lacking in a head, arms and legs! When they tried to escape their car would not start on the first attempt.

To this day the monk and children have been sighted, drivers have reported the monk suddenly appearing beside them in their cars. Theories as to why this road is haunted are linked to the many pit shafts that are found in the area, it is thought that when they were operational a number of children feel into them and perished. The monk is thought to be the ghost of a monk that was once part of Hunshelf Priory and had become disillusioned.
