Snow Games to Play Outside

Kickball, Play Outside

Here is a list of snow games to play outside, with children, than just making snowmen and having snowball fights. These games can be used anytime you have snow and children together. Snow games can be a fun time for children.

Find the Flag
Take a wooden spoon and tie a small white flag at one end of it. Set up a designated area for the game to be played. Keep it in a safe area. One child gets to hide the flag in the snow. However, the flag must be viewable. All the other children hide their eyes in their coat sleeves. The child, that can first capture the flag, gets to hide it.
When the child finds it, they hold it up for the referee to see.

Snow Hurdles
In this snow game, have the children build two snow hurdles. Use a yardstick to measure the same height for each one. The children build it by making snowballs. Once the hurdles are made, the children play follow the leader as they try to jump over the two hurdles. This is difficult, with heavy clothes on.

Snow Tug of War
Build a snow wall that is about 30 inches high and about 6 feet long. Use a strong rope and have the children play tug of war. The team that gets pulled over the snow wall is the loser.

Snow Kickball
Build three bases and a home plate out of snow. Make the bases at least two feet tall. No stealing is allowed. Play a regular game of kickball in the snow. Encourage sliding into a base. You might have to use a colored jump rope to designate the base area. Note; Try using a Frisbee by having the batter throw it into play. Tagging with the Frisbee is allowed, but not throwing at a runner.

Snow Ball Roll
Have teams start making a snow ball by rolling it. The team that has the biggest, by rolling it, is the winning team. Little children might need some help. The snowball will get too big to roll. They are done at that point.

Chinese Freeze Tag
What a fun game to play in the snow. When a child is tagged, they spread their legs out. To get unfrozen, a player must climb through their legs to set them free. This is an excellent snow game for a large group.

Create a Maze
This will take some work on your part. Put on your boots and stomp out a path/maze that your children must follow. Make some loops that they must go through. Zig zag is a lot of fun, too. Keep the path narrow. See if the children can follow the trail.

National Cube Treasure
Hide two trays of ice cubes in the snow. Let the children have a scavenger hunt to find as many ice cubes as they can. You can add Scrabble Chips with numbers or certain letters that have more point value than the others. Provide each child or group of child with clues to where they are.

These are fun snow games for children and even teens. You can enjoy the outdoors and the snow. They work great for parties or whenever groups of children get together.
