Shaving is a necessary evil for women. We all hate it, but we have to do it. Well at least most of us, I did recently read an article about women who stopped shaving. It was well written, but… well, YUCK!
Always looking for an easy way out, I decided to try the hair removal creams with the little plastic razor. Big mistake! I purchased Nair, in a pink bottle, with a cute little pink plastic razor. The instructions said to attach a nozzle to the end of the tube and squeeze the product liberally onto your skin. Well that is easy for you to say….
I twisted the applicator nozzle onto the tube and started at my ankle on my left foot and attempted to “apply liberally” as the instructions stated. The first couple of times it worked ok, but I began to look a lot like a yellow and peach zebra. The yellow cream smelled horrible and did not apply well. I used the back of the plastic razor to smooth the cream on my leg. I figured while that I was sitting there on the toilet, with one leg on the edge of the bathtub, I would apply to the second leg as well. There was not quite enough cream in the tube to finish applying the cream to my second leg. I began wiping excess from my left leg onto my right leg, which turned into a nightmare of a mess. Cream dripped all over everything. The floor had little yellow splats all over it.
The longer the cream was on my legs the messier my bathroom became. I checked the directions, wait three minutes. I wait for what seems like an eternity, sitting on my toilet, both legs propped on the edge of the bathtub, yellow blobs dripping onto the floor. Finally, the time comes for me to use the razor to remove the hair.
I take the pink plastic razor and begin running it over my legs as I would if I were actually shaving. I notice some hair coming off, but a very large amount of hair still on my legs. I finally manage to get most of the stinky yellow cream off my legs and get into the shower to wash away the rest. Even after washing with soap, the Nair left some oily film on my skin. Worst of all, I still had patches of hair all over my legs. The next day I had what appeared to be razor burn. I am not exactly sure how that happened since there was no real razor involved.
Not to be disheartened, the next time I shaved I used a Schick Quattro for Women razor and my husband’s shaving cream. The Schick Quattro has four blades for a very close shave. I shave in the shower, I lathered up my legs, began at my ankles and the hair just seemed to melt away. It took less time than waiting for the cream hair remover to work and it worked much better.
I have never had a closer shave than with the Schick Quattro razor. My legs are smooth, no stubble, it is without a doubt the best shave I have ever had. I had no razor burn, no nasty drippy mess, and no oily film on my legs.
Since it appears I must shave my legs and cannot find a way around it, I will be using my trusty Schick Quattro razor and maybe I will buy my own shaving cream next time. If you are considering using hair removal cream over a razor, save yourself some trouble and go buy a Schick Quattro.
