Scombroid poisoning is a fish born poisoning that can occur when certain types of fish are not handled properly either before, during, or after preparation. Symptoms of scombroid poisoning- Symptoms of scombroid poisoning can begin to appear minutes to hours after eating. It is usually rather quick in appearing, and often has a burning or pepper like taste in the mouth. Your throat may become scratchy as well. You are likely to turn red in the face and neck, and sweat more than usual. Other symptoms associated with scombroid poisoning is headache, diarrhea, and vomiting. Some people have respiratory symptoms. Usually the symptoms subside within a few hours, but can last up to two days in bad cases.

How to prevent scombroid poisoning- In simple terms, the easiest way to avoid scombroid poisoning is to know where your fish came from and how it was handled. When eating out, make sure that you pay close attention to the ratings for restaurants that serve these dishes. If they are not reputable, then stay away. If you prepare these fish yourself, then make sure that you keep the fish temperature controlled, and do not allow the fish to grow bacteria of any kind. Additionally, be sure that you store the fish in at the proper temperature as well.
