Johnson & Johnson has come out with a new lotion for the treatment of facial acne. From the Clean & Clear line of products has emerged the oil-free Dual Action Moisturizer. This product claims to fight pimples while still moisturizing your face. That’s pretty miraculously if it really works. So does it? Here’s a look at the pros and cons.
Ingredients
This acne fighting formula contains salicylic acid, which will dry up pimples in progress. Though this ingredient will normally dry out your skin considerably, this lotion is meant also meant to prevent this normal flake out condition.
How do you use it?
The lotion is dispensed from a 4-ounce bottle directly into your hand. This is then applied to mainly the infected areas of your face in a thin layer. Use it one to three times a day to prevent and treat acne. It’s hard to say whether this lotion is meant to replace your normal facial lotion, but this may not be the best idea. If you have dry skin already, than this product will need to be used sparingly and with another moisturizer over it.
Does it work?
Whether it will work for you is, of course, an individual decision. However, I can reasonably say that it does improve the appearance of acne, but is generally too strong for use on the face daily. You can feel it tingling on your skin when you apply it, so it definitely contains the said ingredients. Nevertheless, whether it actually moisturizers is determined by your current skin condition. In the winter where most people have drier skin it is best not to use it on a regular basis. And as mentioned before, it will likely dry out already dry skin and may cause a rash. But for those with oily skin it can work miracles.
Cons
The smell of this lotion is very medicinal. It isn’t pleasant especially if used liberally. So you can’t use this product without it being known for hours before the scent fades. In addition to the scent it will cause your acne to ‘sting’ because of the concentration of the active ingredient. So it isn’t for the fainthearted.
Pros
Clean & Clear’s Dual Action Moisturizer works fairly well. It is a little cheaper to buy than the small tubes of acne medications and contains a better acid for preventing acne bacteria. When you use it in combination with other Clean & Clear products it will keep your skin fairly clear if you have mild to moderate acne. For those of you that have severe acne who have received medical treatments to clear the bulk of your acne problem, than this is a good follow-up product. It can also be used effectively on body acne.
