Review: Vick’s Pediatric Warm Steam Vaporizer

Vaporizers

My entire family recently had a bout with the flu. And, since we didn’t have enough vaporizers in our house for everyone, my wife ran to Walgreen’s to buy one.

The one she picked up was the Vick’s Pediatric Warm Steam Vaporizer. Since she is pregnant, she figured it was a product we could use later on with the baby. And, for the most part, it has been worth the money.

When we first got the vaporizer, we used it with the Vick’s medicine that you’re supposed to add to the water. But, we’ve been using it recently just with water. And, we’ve noticed that the latter has helped us sleep much more soundly at night (even more soundly than we did with the humidifier we were using prior to buying this product).

There are a couple things I like about this vaporizer.

First, it is very quiet. When you first start using it, you can hear it kicking out the steam but, after a while, it barely makes a noise. That’s a big difference from the humidifier we were using; which used to drown out every sound.

Also, unlike another warm steam vaporizer we once owned, this one doesn’t go through water very quickly. We only have to fill it once, before plugging it in and it will last the night. The other one, in comparison, required me to get up during the night to re-fill it.

The green light at the top of the vaporizer is also a big plus for me. It allows me to see where it is (just in case I want to unplug it late at night). But, it’s not overly bright either; which means it isn’t going to keep us awake at night.

The only real complaint I have with this product is actually the same complaint I have with most steam vaporizers. Like every other vaporizer I’ve owned, I have to put salt in the water for it to work. The problem with this is the salt tends to clog the holes the steam comes out. And, for some reason, this one seems to have a bigger problem with that than most. We’ve had to take a tooth pick to unplug this a couple different times and we’ve only been using it for a couple of weeks.

Considering it did help us get over our flu and has worked well with helping us sleep at night, I do think this was a good purchase. But, as I mentioned before, there is always room for improvement.
