Pencils, Prismacolor

Prismacolor Professional Quality Soft Thick Lead Pencils, made by the Sanford Company, are a necessary supply for any artist or creative person who likes to use coloured pencils for their artwork. This outstanding quality coloured pencil set is a cut above the standard product. They are really enjoyable to work with.

Prismacolor thick lead coloured pencils are available in 120 different colours. Not only are they available in such a wide variety of colours, these particular Prismacolor coloured pencils come with a soft lead tip. The colours can easily be blended to increase the colour spectrum in your art work.

The Prismacolor pencil sets come in different size boxes. If you want to try a smaller box, to see if you like them before you invest more money, the smallest box is sold in a 12 colour pack. They also come in 24, 48, 72, 96 and the full range of 120 colours. I have the 48 colour box. These are more expensive coloured pencils than the standard school box variety, but they are worth the money. If you only need to replace one colour, they are also available in open stock.

Prismacolor are professional quality but are fun for both professionals and amateurs alike. They are fun to experiment with. They add depth and character to any drawing. Even the most inexperienced artist, will find these improve and expand their drawing technique.

The Prismacolor pencils are made by the Sanford Corp, which has a product line that includes the well known Sharpie, Papermate, Rolodex, and Liquid Paper brands.

The coloured pencil line is not limited to the soft thick lead pencils. They have hard lead pencils for detailed outline work, watercolour pencils, the light resistant Light Fast line, which resists fading, Col-Erase which are easy to erase, and Art Stix for covering large areas. They even have a colourless blender stick. There is also an art marker line.

The 48 set of Prismacolor Professional Quality Soft Thick Lead Pencils comes in a tiered and tilted display box ,that can stand up. You have easy access to the two layers of pencils in the box. It makes it easy to get to the colours while you re working, without having to pick up the box over and over to get to the colours you want. You can also pull the tiers out of the box, if you prefer. When you are done, the box slides closed and seals up nice and neat. It is compact to store away. It is nice to carry around too. It fits in carry bags and art boxes.

Another definite advantage to the Prismacolor pencils is that they can blend on a variety of surfaces, not just regular paper. They even work on wood and plastic film.

I was given this set of Prismacolor Professional Quality Soft Thick Lead Pencils as a gift. Until then I had never tried the product line before. They have a definite fan in me now. I would recommend them to anyone. They would make a great gift for any artist, or budding artist that you might know.

These are a wonderful art tool that is a must have for any artist who likes to draw with pencils. My daughter loves them too and begs to use them when she feels like sitting in my office and drawing. I must admit, I don’t let them go out of my work space. I’m rather territorial about them, like I am with my favourite pens and scissors.

Prismacolor products are environmentally sensitive. The are not made from any rainforest woods. They are also non-toxic, which is a definite bonus.

If you want to try something fun to work with and you love art, try the Prismacolor Professional Quality Soft Thick Lead Pencils. They make a great gift too. I haven’t tried their other products yet, but I am eyeing them, like a child making a Christmas wish list.
