Review: “Girl Tech Journal” by Radica

Girl Tech Journal is a girl’s electronic toy. It was selling out at many on-line stores this 2008 holiday season. This is a very popular item among pre-teen age girls. It is a secret diary or journal that can only be opened by the owner’s own voice. State of the art, tech diary, it uses a voice recognition program. It seemed to be a pretty hot item for your third through fifth grade level school girls. This was the number one gift on my nine year old daughters list this holiday season. Just like any loving parent, you run out to get this gift your child wants so bad for the Holiday’s. I was absolutely thrilled to find when I ran out to the store I had purchased one of the last three in stock. The price was so affordable as well. Normally priced at $21.99 and I had bought the item at 25% off, what a great bargain! I was just as excited as my daughter would be come Christmas morning.

Christmas has come, as my nine year old daughter opens the gift, here come this ear piercing screech, that make it feel like my own eardrums will explode. She is ecstatic, excited, purely so thrilled, she got her girl tech journal for Christmas. Just like every other family, Christmas morning, we finish unwrapping all the rest of the gifts. Once we finish unwrapping, my daughter picks her girl tech journal to be opened first.

We of course open the package, put the batteries into the journal. The journal open and gives my daughter directions out loud. Asking her to speak her secret password into the journal. So of course, she records her password, using her own voice. She is using her own voice, because anyone can repeat her password, but it will not let them in, because its not the girl’s voice. Well after setting up her “technical” journal, she is ready to start using her journal to hide her secrets in. She has her glow pen and glow light, which is a special light that when it’s put on allows the owner of the journal to see what has been written, nobody else will see the words She writes down her secrets and closes her journal. So here it comes, time to get back in the journal. She can’t seem to get back into her own journal. My daughter is constantly being called an “intruder” by her own journal. This goes on for over 15 minutes each time she tries to gain access her own journal. The gift that was number one this year, has now been tossed under the tree like a piece of garbage, due to the frustration of using the journal. Each time day after day, she would try to get in her journal, she was constantly called an intruder, and would be come rather upset.

My personal review of this product is one the pro’s of this girl toy is the price is very reasonable. One of the con’s are it does not work like it says it actually does. Overall, it becomes a waste of money in the long run, when your child can’t use their toy.
