Review: Fiji’s Brick Cheese

Fiji

I was a bit hungry this afternoon but didn’t want to eat anything too big because I planned on making dinner shortly. So, I ended up digging in our fridge for something to snack on.

I originally planned on having an apple but discovered the bag of apples in the crisper drawer had been there a few days too long so I wound up looking for something else instead. When I came across a small package of brick cheese from the Fiji’s gift pack we got this past Christmas, I decided to slice that up instead.

I haven’t had brick cheese in a long while and, compared to other cheeses, it isn’t one of my favorite varieties. And, I was a little skeptical of the Fiji’s brand.

However, after trying the cheese, I have to say it was much better than I expected it to be.

One of my biggest complaints about brick cheese has always been the smell. Normally, this isn’t something that is going to bother me too much. But, I’ve had a bunch of other brands that were way too strong smelling and that’s not something that is going to improve my appetite.

When I opened the wrapper of this brand, however, I was surprised that the cheese didn’t have much of a smell to it. It there was still an odor. But, it wasn’t something that filled the room (like with other brands).

Another thing I have never liked about brick cheese is it is usually a bit too much on the strong size for me. I don’t like sharp cheddar and I certainly don’t like cheese that is even sharper than that. However, once again, this brand surprised me. The cheese had a bit of a sharp flavor to it, but it wasn’t anything that was too strong. In fact, it was mild enough for me to feel comfortable giving some of it to my youngest daughter (who ended up eating a few pieces of it). Between the two of us, the cheese was gone in about 10 minutes (so much for that light snack I was looking for).

If you like cheese, but aren’t a huge fan of brick cheese, I would recommend giving this brand a try. I personally don’t know if I will buy this particular of cheese on a regular basis from other brands, but I would definitely consider trying this brand of brick cheese again.
