Review: Doctor’s Best MSM Powder

Msm

MSM has become popular as a joint supplement but I purchased Doctor’s Best MSM powder because a friend of mine sung great praises of MSM for her allergies. I bought some at iherb.com, 250 grams, for less than $9.

I decided on Doctor’s Best MSM powder version because I thought the powder would be more effective, absorb better and I really didn’t want another pill to swallow. What I didn’t take into account is the taste. The product says to take in a glass of water or juice. MSM is sulfur and it taste like, well, sulfur. Sulfur in water is not a taste for everyone or most, for that matter.

I don’t often buy or drink juice so water is my biggest option to put it in. I have found a way around the taste by adding some to my smoothies. The serving size is 1/4 – ½ teaspoon (1,000-2,000mg of MSM) 1 – 4 times a day. Even the higher ½ teaspoon serving I found it is almost unnoticeable in a fruit smoothie. Plain water on the other hand, good luck getting it down.

My allergies have lessened since starting Doctor’s Best MSM powder. Though, they are not completely gone but I only take it once a day, about ½ teaspoon, since I only drink a smoothie once a day, though not always everyday.

I don’t have any problem with it dissolving when I put the msm powder in smoothies but it doesn’t really dissolve too easily in plain water cold or room temperature water. I always end up with grains of msm in the bottom of the glass. I tried putting it in some moisturizer I made and it ended up as a exfolient because most of it didn’t dissolve. A small hand juice mixer or warm water helps it dissolve just a little better. Though, if you are able to take it in plain water you can probably just swallow the grains and be thankful it doesn’t add to the horrible taste.

My container of Doctor’s Best seems to be lasting forever, but when it does run out I plan to purchase Doctor’s Best MSM Powder again.
