Raku Izakaya – Restaurant Review

Korean Cuisine, Open Floor Plan

Looking for a new Asian restaurant in northern New Jersey? Well then Raku Izakaya is the place for you. Raku is located in Fort Lee, New Jersey, near the George Washington Bridge, making it easily accessible via public transportation from other parts of New Jersey or New York City. From Japanese tapas to Korean entrees, Raku has a little bit of everything.

About

Raku Izakaya opened its Fort Lee doors back in March of 2010. The restaurant’s large and open floor plan is ideal for large groups and events, but can also cater to a romantic evening for two. Raku serves Japanese tapas and yakitori, but also has Korean specialties available to cater to the surrounding largely Korean population. In addition to food, Raku also offers an extensive wine, beer, cocktail and sake menu to complement any meal. Street parking is available, but due to local laws, cars have to be moved after 12am. No need to fret, Raku has a rear parking lot to accommodate. The atmosphere is downtown Tokyo meets New York City lounge. Raku also offers specials, a happy hour from 5pm – 8pm daily and an occasional ladies only night. Check out Raku’s Facebook page for the current special promotions.

My Experience

I recently visited Raku after a friend’s recommendation. I ordered the glass noodles with vegetables which was delicious. For those with food allergies or special diets, make sure to ask the waitress about the ingredients. Not all the ingredients are listed on the menu, so it is easy for a vegetarian to order a meat dish, like I did. I am told that the bacon wrapped scallop skewers are fantastic as well as the shrimp and scallop teriyaki. The miso soup and hot tea were both lovely. Although the menu items are not cheap, they are certainly worth it.
