Prospect Avenue School (Santee, California)

The PRIDE Academy at Prospect Avenue School is a K-8 school located in Santee, California. With over 50,000 people in the city, virtually all of Prospect’s students come from Santee. On that note, there are multiple elementary and middle schools in the area – plus two high schools. Prospect Avenue is your typical K-8 school with regards to curriculum, teachers, students, and activities. Still, the school is worth taking a gander into, so here is tons of information on Prospect Avenue School.

Location

In Santee, Prospect Avenue is – unsurprisingly – located on Prospect Avenue. Chet F. Harritt School, another K-8 school, is located less than a mile down the street, as is a local park. Within five miles, there are two high schools and two other elementary/middle schools. Prospect Avenue School is on the quieter side of Santee, but there are shopping centers and housing nearby. The school itself consists of a few buildings and two separate playgrounds. As for the street the school is on, Prospect Avenue is regularly traveled by vehicles and pedestrians. The two lane street should not worry parents though because it isn’t considered a dangerous street by anyone.

Academics

Obviously, Prospect Avenue School is your typical K-8 schools. All curricula are identical to what one would find at a similar school. Certain grades are grouped together with different schedules. For instance, Kindergarten, grades 1 through 3, grades 4 through 6, and grades 7 and 8 are all separated by different schedules. Each grade has its own curriculum though. Sadly, Prospect doesn’t offer many special or advanced programs for talented students, but other schools in the area do. However, the PRIDE Academy does offer Project SAFE, which is a before and after school program for students that helps students and gives them something to do each day. Many parents enroll their children into Project Safe if they have to go to work or otherwise can’t watch their children because it’s a safe alternative to leaving their kids at home alone. Anyways, Prospect’s academics in comparison to other local schools is somewhat lacking, but the school is by no means deficient when it comes to academics.

Students

In any given year, there are nearly 500 students or so at the PRIDE Academy. There are usually 25 students per class on average, but it depends upon grade level. Like other schools in the area, Prospect is majority white in student makeup with small percentages of Asian, Black, Latino, and Middle Eastern students. As for test scores, Prospect is just about on par with other schools in the state of California. The overwhelming majority of students end up graduating the 8th grade on the first try – some students do have to repeat grades every so often. Anyways, the bulk of students are in grades 1 through 6 – obviously. With 500 students, Prospect Avenue School is relatively small in comparison to similar schools in Santee and even the surrounding cities.

Other Stuff

The PRIDE Academy at Prospect Avenue School is just one of many schools in San Diego County. After graduating from Prospect, many students move on to one of two local high schools – Santana or West Hills High School. There are other high schools outside of Santee too. The PRIDE Academy isn’t as prestigious as surrounding K-8 schools, but it isn’t too academically shorthanded next to those schools. In regards to transportation, the school is easily accessible by car and foot. A bus does run by the school in the mornings and after school too. Transportation should not be a worry at all for parents. For anyone living in Santee, the PRIDE Academy at Prospect Avenue School is a good choice for students in K-8, but the school only guarantees acceptance for students living in a certain area of Santee. Still, an intradistrict transfer can get your student into Prospect Avenue School.
