Prom is one of the most exciting and notable celebrations that occur during your high school years. Most high school students spend their entire school career dreaming of and looking forward to this special night, so it only makes sense to archive and document the occasion. A homemade scrapbook is the perfect way to organize and display your photographs and other paper keepsakes from your prom. Whether you are an experienced scrapbooker or are just getting started, you can easily create a beautiful and unique scrapbook to showcase your favorite prom pictures. Here are some ideas for creating a prom scrapbook.

Printed Papers

Skip the solid-colored card stock and opt to use fun, colorful printed papers. Craft and scrapbook supply stores sell a wide selection of printed papers with a variety of patterns, designs and images on them. Pick a color scheme and carry it through your scrapbook. The color scheme could be the color of your dress of the colors of the prom décor. Be creative and choose a variety of papers, but try to keep them coordinated for a polished look.

Photos

You will inevitably take A LOT of pictures throughout the course of the night, but there are several important photo opportunities to take advantage of. Pictures of you getting ready with friends, waiting for your date, eating dinner and dancing at the prom are all photos that should be included in your scrapbook. Make sure to keep the pictures in chronological order when you are creating your page layouts for the scrapbook.

School Spirit

If you live near an Archiver’s scrapbook store, check out their school spirit section. Unlike other craft and scrapbook supply stores, they carry specialty stickers and other scrapbook items that are relevant to the store’s location. This includes stickers for area schools that have the school’s name and logo, and in some cases, even the school’s motto. A sticker, paper or other embellishment with your school’s logo is the perfect addition to a prom scrapbook and will showcase the pride you felt for attending your school.

Journal Tags

Journal tags come in a variety of colors and styles, and are a great way to utilize text in your pages. Journal tags are meant to be written on and are a great way to incorporate your thoughts and feelings in your prom scrapbook.

3-D Embellishments

3-D embellishments add extra detail and personality to your page layouts. Scrapbook supply stores sell thousands of 3-D embellishments in a wide variety of colors and designs. Craft gems, paper flowers, ribbons and frames are all examples of 3-D embellishments that can add extra flair to your prom scrapbook. Choose embellishments that coordinate with the rest of your scrapbook elements to keep everything in the book looking uniform.

Rub-on Transfers

Rub-on transfers are similar to stickers, but have a seamless finish. Rub-on transfers put the image directly onto the paper, and are very durable as they cannot peel off of the page. Craft stores sell rub-on transfers in a variety of colors and images.

Flower Petals

If you receive a corsage from your date, preserve it and document it in your scrapbook. You may choose to preserve the entire flower or preserve all of the petals individually to scatter throughout your pages. To preserve your prom corsage, place the flower or petals onto the inside back cover of a heavy book. Close the book and place another heavy book on top. After a week or so, the flower will be completely dehydrated and ready to use in your prom scrapbook.

Paper Keepsakes

Paper keepsakes could include your prom ticket, dinner receipt, or any other papers you receive throughout the night. My high school held a huge after prom party that came complete with cartoon artists, gambling, fortune tellers and photobooths. All of these activities were worth documenting and gave me a picture, drawing or other paper keepsake to hold onto.
