Most people know that Yankee Candle Company makes some of the best candles on the market today, but many people don’t know that Yankee Candle also produces a wide variety of other home fragrance options. From plug-ins to potpourri, if you’re looking for something to make your home smell better, Yankee Candle is the place for you. Recently, Yankee came out with a new fragrancing product called a “Reed Diffuser,” and in this review, I’ll let you know if this pretty new air freshener is really worth the money.
The reed diffuser concept is not new-I remember seeing similar products in stores years ago. Basically, you start with a bottle of scented oil that reeds (small, wooden sticks) are placed into. The reeds soak up the oil and become “wet,” and these wet reeds are what release fragrance into the air. Many companies have recently come out with their own lines of reed diffusers, and one of the first things I noticed about the Yankee Candle reed diffuser was how much bigger it was than most of the other ones I had seen. The reed diffuser from Yankee Candle was about 13″ from top to bottom, and most of the other diffusers I had seen were no more than half that size. Also, Yankee seemed to offer a much greater variety of fragrances than any of the other companies, which was another bonus.
After unpacking the product, you just unscrew the lid from the bottle of oil and place the 10 included reeds inside the bottle. It takes a couple of hours for the reeds to really start to absorb the scented oil, but when it really gets going, the Yankee Candle reed diffuser releases a surprising amount of fragrance. The diffuser would probably not create enough scent for a very large space, but it seems like the perfect air freshener option for smaller spaces, like powder rooms or dens. I put mine in our guest bathroom, and everyone that has used that bathroom has commented on how wonderful it smelled, so I guess the product really works.
At $19.99, the reed diffusers from Yankee Candle might cost a little more than some other company’s, but I think the size of the Yankee Candle diffuser easily makes up for any cost difference. Although the product packaging says the reed diffuser will last for “several weeks,” I have had mine out for almost 3 months now and it is still going strong. At this point in time, refills of oil are not offered for the Yankee Candle reed diffusers, so when one runs out, you have to buy a whole new one. But if you’re looking to add fragrance to a small space without burning a candle, the Yankee Candle Reed Diffuser might just be the product you’ve been searching for!
