Product Review: Capresso CoffeeTEAM Therm Coffee Maker

The CoffeeTEAM Therm is a fantastic combination conical burr grinder and coffee maker and wins my Blue Ribbon for Excellence. Simply fill with water and the grinder container with beans, set the clock for when you want it to brew and set the basket under the grinder.

When the time arrives the grinder will grind the amount of beans you set as well as automatically unlatch and move to the brewing position when the grind is done. The conical burr grinder ensures you have the best possible grind for your coffee beans for that great tasting cup of fresh coffee first thing in the morning.

Setting the clock is easy but does involve a few steps, keeping the instructions handy for the first few times is probably a good idea. The time is set in one operation and when you set the time you want it to brew you also set how much grind you want for the strength of your coffee as well as how many cups of coffee you want to brew.

You can change the grind from finer or courser by turning the bean container for stronger or more average, ho hum, coffee. The nice features of the CoffeeTEAM Therm are the conical burr grinder that allows for the freshest coffee without your getting out of bed first thing in the morning to brew it. The conical burr grinder will grind the coffee beans slowly to minimize the amount of heat generated during the grind.

If you read my previous review of the Capresso Infinity Burr Grinder I mention that coffee beans that are ground in a blade grinder will heat up and lose the fresh aroma and taste of the coffee. The freshest coffee comes from fresh roast coffee beans and fresh ground coffee, ground right before you brew the coffee.

Using fresh cold water and a clean coffee maker helps for fresh good tasting coffee but I have read from many, many sources on the internet that the best coffee comes from good fresh ground beans. Brewing right after you grind the beans makes for the freshest and best tasting coffee that will not be bitter or burnt tasting.

The CoffeeTEAM Therm has a conical filter for better even dripping and the basket this sits in is spring loaded and springs to the brewing position. To brew the coffee you clean out the basket from the previous use, it says this several times in the instructions but I am sure it is a great reminder.

When you push the filter basket to the grinding position it will click in with a latch that is controlled by the programming of the coffee maker. When your coffee is brewing either on automatic using the clock or by brewing now it will latch and unlatch by the program. You can release the latch by pushing down on the pivot point as long as the coffee maker is not in a grind cycle.

You can brew coffee in two ways, by the program method or by brewing now. The program sets up a clock and the time you want to brew the coffee that is also used for the brew it now medthod. There are a few steps to program the clock and coffee maker to set your time, strength of coffee and the amount.

For brew it now you can do one of two things, leave the settings of the clock and use the program button to simply start brewing or change the settings. The settings for brew it now uses the same settings that are currently in the clock and program as far as the strength and amount.

The amount is set by how much water you put in the water container when you set up for brewing and not the entered amount for the program. I’m not sure exactly what the program amount is for but water will run through the machine for how much you put in the water container just like any other coffee maker, but this is definitely not just any other coffee maker. You can also alter the strength and the taste by how fine the grind is using the bean container strength adjustment by turning the bean container.

To brew it now you just push the power button after filling the water, setting the filter to the grind position and of course filling the beans. The CoffeeTEAM Therm will brew using the programmed settings and if you want to change them just follow the programming steps in the manual and then hit the power button.

The coffee will brew and drip into the stainless steel carafe and if you just can’t wait for that first cup till the machine is done the stopper at the bottom of the basket will not spill coffee all over. The carafe will keep your coffee warm for several hours but not all day and has a nice closing spout by turning the lid to keep the fresh coffee warmer longer.

You can also brew coffee without using the grinder, I won’t go into why you would want to, by simply not putting the filter basket to the grinder position and filling it with ground coffee. You push the power button and of course with water in it will start brewing coffee immediately without going through the grind process. With the filter basket not latching the machine knows not to use the grinder so you skip that part of the grind and brew process.

Cleanup is very easy with most of the parts simply come off for easy cleaning while some you have to wipe off for cleaning. The bean container has two screws that hold it in place but there is no really easy way to clean the conical burr grinder blades. I am sure you can remove the parts but it does not look like it is made for customers to easily remove them for cleaning.

The CoffeeTEAM Therm makes a great cup of coffee and the fresh grind ensures you have the most flavor when you grind and then immediately brew the coffee. The grinder works flawlessly at getting the grounds into the basket and the whole system of the basket unlatching and moving into position works well.

You do have to make sure you set the filter basket up correctly as the basket and lid can be set in crooked to prevent the basket from snapping into the correct position for brewing. This is simply a matter of making sure the basket and lid are on all the way when you set the machine up for brewing by looking at it.

The machine has performed flawlessly for me and is very easy to use and set up, not many more steps than setting up the simple kind of coffee makers. The automatic brewing with the clock works just fine as well as brewing now and the settings for strength and grind fineness ensure you get the correct cup of coffee that you want.

I cannot stress how much of a difference using fresh ground coffee makes and having the coffee waiting for you first thing in the morning is such a bonus. The CoffeeTEAM Therm is a fantastic machine and the best way to brew coffee for that morning cup; it is the only conical burr grinder and coffee maker on the market at present.
