Gross Motor Activity for Preschool Lesson Plan: Snakes

Put on some music and let your preschool students get on the floor and slither like snakes. To add some fun to this gross motor activity, lay down some strips of green ribbon or torn strips of green construction paper to serve as the grass. Keep in mind that it is much easier to slither like a snake on linoleum than it is to do so on carpeting. While slithering, encourage your students to hiss like a snake. Remind them that the wordssnake and slitherstart with the letter S. Ask them what sound ends the word grass.

Can you wiggle like a worm?
Can you squiggle? Can you squirm?
Can you flutter? Can you fly like a gentle butterfly?
Can you crawl upon the ground
Like a beetle that is round?
Can you move with me?
Can you flip? Can you flop?
Can you give a little hop?
Can you slither like a snake?
Can you give a little shake?

Who is buzzing round a tree?
Can you move with me?
