Reading Center for Preschool Lesson Plan: Family

Fill your preschool reading center with books about all kinds of families such as single parent families, adoptive families, traditional families and so on. Encourage your preschool students to talk about their own families while they are looking through the books in your reading center.

Snack for Preschool Lesson Plan: Family

Send a note home to your preschool students’ parents asking them to send a snack that they enjoy as a family with their child the next day. For example, popcorn, fruit or peanut butter crackers. During snack time, have each of your students take turns holding up their snack and saying, “My family likes to snack on ___.” Let them add more if they like, such as “My family likes to eat granola bars while we watch cartoons.

Pre-math Center Activity for Preschool Lesson Plan: Family

For use with your preschool classroom’s flannel board, provide family groups. Make sure that you have several flannel pieces of each member. In this manner, your students can add an extra woman as the aunt that might be living with them and such. Now have each of your preschool students take a turn at placing the members of their family on the family board. For example, one woman for Mom, one man for Dad, two girls for Sisters and 3 boys for Brothers. Then have them count out how many people are in their families. Be sure that they put a flannel child up to represent themselves!

Pre-writing Center Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Family

For younger students, provide sheets of paper with the letters F and f lightly printed on them. Have the children trace the letters. do the same with the number 2.

For older students, provide an example of the letters F and f and the number 2. Have the students practice writing the letters and number freehand.
