It is not easy to find good books for teens- but when you do, it’s nice for parents and teachers alike to be able to provide access to a whole series of books that will keep teens’ attention. No doubt it’s better to have teens reading than staring at some type of electronic device. This series of New York Times #1 Bestsellers books by Ann Brashares [Delacorte Books, 2002-2007] include Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Second Summer of the Sisterhood, Girls in Pants and Forever in Blue: The Fourth Summer of the Sisterhood.These books are enormously popular with teen girls. The story begins with a pair of jeans from a thrift store, which becomes a unique bond that keeps four best friends emotionally connected during the first summer that they spend apart. The pants make each girl feel as confident as a teenager can feel and they promise to share them equally, mailing them back and forth over the summer from wherever they are.
This series by Scott Westerfeld includes the trilogy of books Uglies, Pretties, and Specials and the recently released Extras [Simon Pulse 2006-2007]. The series follows the high-tech adventures of Tally Youngblood, a teen who is first an ugly, then a pretty, and finally a special. Tally works to challenge a society that revolves around perfect-looking people who really aren’t so perfect.
Internet Girls Series by Lauren Myracle
