Pink and Gray, a Beautiful Color Combination

Think Pink

If you love pink, but you’re afraid to commit because you think it will look to girly in your home, you have a terrific option. Just pair your pink accessories on a backdrop of cool gray. The gray will tone down the pink hue, yet complement it at the same time. Throw in a good dose of white and you’ll have a winning and beautiful combination. Let me show you how.

• Split the Wall

The easiest way to combine two colors in short order is to split the wall with a chair rail. Paint one color on the bottom of the rail and the other on top. Pink and gray lend themselves beautifully to this wall treatment.

Use a clean white for the chair rail and carry it over to the window frames and other structures and accessories in the room. When you anchor the room in pink below the chair rail and finish with gray on top, you can add artwork that smartly combines both colors on the gray portion of the wall.

• Pop the Pink

Do you want a special pink piece to stand out in your space? If you create a monotone room of gray on the walls, floor and furniture, a single pink piece will take center stage and pop the pink in your room.

• Let it be Subtle

Using soft, light shades of pink with dark, bold shades of gray let pink enter your world in a subtle and calming way. Of course, you’ll want to add lots of white to extend the calm throughout the space.

Another subtle choice is to drench the room in white, then bring in small elements of pink and gray. It’s soft and simple and easy on the eyes.

• Some Like it Hot

When some people think of pink, they think pastel. Then others think pink in shades of hot pink, fuscia or magenta. Create a soft backdrop of gray and white, then bring in your power pieces. It’s a bold statement any way you look at it.

• Throw in a Little Green

If you want to include just one more color in your decorating palette, make it green. Combining pink, gray and white with a shot of green is fun and magical. You won’t have to use much – just an accent here or there and it will breathe life into your space in a way no other color can.
