Pillsbury Thin Crust Pizza Crust

Digiorno, Pillsbury, Thin Crust Pizza, Vegetarian Pizza

When I see good sale prices in my local grocery stores, I will often put them in my shopping cart and give them a try. Our family has been enjoying Pillsbury Crescent Rolls and Pillsbury Biscuits for many many years, so I had a good feeling about trying their pizza crust.

Pillsbury has had a pizza crust on the market for quite a while now, but what I purchased was Pillsbury Pizza Crust Thin Crust. I love thin crust pizza, and the fewer calories of a thinner crust fit into my diet plans nicely.

Description

Pillsbury Pizza Crust Thin Crust comes in a long round tube. It has the familiar blue label and the cute little Pillsbury Dough Boy on the front. The tube contains 11 ounces of pizza dough, and the front of the label reads that this product contains zero trans fats. Trans fats are the unhealthy fats and there is a huge push away from these. No Trans Fats” claims, in my mind, replace those “Low Fat” claims that were so common.

Easy To Make

After preheating my oven to 400 degrees, I whacked the roll onto my counter top to open it up, and unrolled the pizza dough. It was very thick, soft, and pliable. It calls for use in a 15″ by 10″ cookie sheet, the one I used was slightly smaller. You are directed to spray or grease the cookie sheet with a nonstick spray.

After the dough is rolled out, you then add 1/2 cup of pizza sauce, then top with your desired pizza toppings. After that is completed, the pizza only needs to bake for 9-13 minutes (for cheese topping only), and 13-17 minutes when additional toppings are added to the pizza crust. The instructions say to let it bake until the pizza crust is a deep golden brown.

Taste and Experience

Pillsbury Pizza Crust Thin Crust is exceptionally easy to make. The dough was easy to spread around the cookie sheet, and I built up the edges of the pizza with a little extra dough. I already had pizza sauce, shredded cheese and pepperoni on hand, (left over from a kids snack), and I added sliced black olives.

The directions were very accurate, and this pizza was done to perfection in just 17 minutes. I started to cut the pizza when it was still hot and the crust wanted to break apart on me, so I let it rest and cool off for a few minutes, and had better results when I did that.

Pillsbury Pizza Crust Thin Crust did rise slightly, giving this pizza the look of a restaurant pizza! Granted, the results of a good pizza is going to depend greatly on the quality of pizza sauce and toppings that you put on it, but our pizza turned out with a wonderful taste. My husband made the comment to me, “you should make this all the time, this is good!”

Pillsbury Pizza Crust Thin Crust can end up being an expensive pizza, again depending on what you put on it. I was fortunate in that I already had all of the toppings and sauce on hand, but if you add up the cost of everything that I put on my pizza, I think it would be cheaper to purchase a frozen DiGiorno pizza on sale for $5.00.

Pillsbury Pizza Crust Thin Crust was on sale for $2.39, the pizza sauce was $1.19, pepperoni was $3.50 and I used half of the bag, olives $1, and the cheese cost around $2.00. That comes to more than $7, so this can indeed get expensive to make. However, being on a diet, I love that I have the luxury of adding my own toppings. I can use any type of cheese I want, and I can add lower fat meats and veggies. I can even make this a vegetarian pizza if I so choose.

Pillsbury Pizza Crust Thin Crust makes a quick and easy snack for my daycare children too. I participate in a USDA Food Program, which reimburses me for money spent on food. Restaurant, store or frozen pizza is not a creditable food on this plan, because I don’t know how many ounces of cheese or meats are on these pizzas. If I make them myself, I can claim this meal as an valid expense.

Overall, we are happy with Pillsbury Pizza Crust Thin Crust, and find it to be a good quality product.
