Kid Friendly Crescent Roll Recipes

Crescent Rolls

Kids are, by nature, picky and unpredictable when it comes to their eating habits and food choices. One day they love popcorn, the next day they have decided they don’t eat any food that is white. Or, maybe you just have trouble convincing them to try new foods, or just expand their food horizons beyond three foods.

Since I have experienced living with the pickiest of all picky eaters (my 7 year old daughter) I have tried to experiment with new food choices. I was on to something when I came across crescent rolls, and the ideas started flowing! The nice thing too, is that they are easy to make and my children love to help make them!

Here are a few of my children’s top crescent roll recipe choices.

Crescent roll hot dog wraps.
All you need for this one is crescent rolls and hot dogs. I only buy the “all beef” hot dogs, but turkey hot dogs will do also.

Start by rolling out the crescent rolls. Take one triangle and roll it around the hot dog. Put the hot dogs on a baking sheet for the oven, or the toaster oven. Bake at 350 degrees for about 8 minutes, depending on your oven.

Once removed from the oven, you have a new, original hot dog idea! Add ketchup and mustard if you like, and you are ready to eat.

The kids love to wrap the hot dogs, and the taste is new, not like a hot dog bun or a corn dog!

Roll out the crescent rolls. I typically combine two triangles into one. Spread on some pizza sauce and top with mozzarella cheese and any other pizza ingredients you may like. Combine two more crescent roll triangles, and use that to cover the “pizza”. Press down along the edges to seal it in.

Bake, at about 350 degrees, for 8 minutes or so, again depending on your oven.

Crescent roll lunchmeat wraps.
Ingredients:
~Crescent rolls
~Lunchmeat of Choice
~Cheese of Choice

Roll out the crescent rolls. Layer small pieces of lunchmeat (ham, turkey, etc) with small pieces of cheese. Wrap up and bake at about 350 degrees for 8 minutes.

This is a fun one, because different lunchmeats can be used, depending on what the kids like.

Crescent roll taco wraps.
Ingredients:
~Crescent rolls
~Ground beef
~Taco seasoning
~Taco cheese
~Sour cream or sauce if desired

Roll out the crescent rolls. To make this easier, I will combine two triangles together. Cook the ground beef and add taco seasoning and water as directed. Once taco meat is done, spoon it on to the crescent roll. Add taco cheese (Mexican blend or cheddar is what my kids like). Cover with more crescent roll dough and bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes.

Crescent roll chili wraps.
I make these just like the taco wraps, except I use chili instead.

Crescent roll chicken wraps.
Ingredients:
~Crescent rolls
~Grilled chicken, diced and cooked
~Vegetables
~Mayo or Salad dressing of choice
~Mozzarella cheese
~Parmesan Cheese

Roll out the crescent rolls, combining two triangle pieces together. Mix together, in a large bowl, chicken, dressing and vegetables. Scoop onto crescent rolls and top with cheese. Cover with crescent roll dough, and seal in around the edges. Slice the tops twice across, and sprinkle parmesan cheese on top. Bake at 350 degrees for about 14 minutes.

As you can see, the sky is the limit with crescent roll recipes. Sometimes I let the kids look through the refrigerator and come up with new ideas. They also love to roll and wrap the dough, and are more apt to eat something they have helped make.

When it comes to feeding our children, sometimes we need to be creative and think outside the box. I know I will keep experimenting to come up with new and original ideas, especially with an excessively picky 7 year old of mine!

Happy eating!
