Perfume Review: DKNY Red Delicious by Donna Karan

Be Delicious, Dkny, Donna Karan, Red Delicious

Seeing how I just finished writing up a review on Donna Karan’s Be Delicious perfume for women, I figured I may as well finish this up by writing about the second scent to be released directly after Be Delicious.

The name:

Red Delicious.

I myself did not even know that there was going to be a follow up scent to Be Delicious. (A perfume I loved, but it didn’t have long lasting scent). I actually spotted Red Delicious on a perfume counter at my local ULTA store. It sat right next to Be Delicious, and came in the exact same bottle as Be Delicious does.

Red Delicious though comes with red colored perfume. This particular perfume appears to be a red delicious apple…where Be Delicious was a granny smith, or green apple due to its green colored perfume.

The bottle is apple shaped, which is cute and trendy. However, the nozzle was also the same, and if you caught my Be Delicious review, then you already know about the horrible nozzle.

The nozzle is built into the top of the apple shaped bottle. When you try to press it in and aim, you can easily drop the fragile glass bottle onto the floor, breaking it. I hate the nozzle, and those who designed it need to do something about that issue.

Although I had no plans to purchase Red Delicious, I still wanted to give it a try. I picked up the sample bottle and sprayed Red Delicious onto my wrist and gave it a sniff after the initial smell of alcohol dried away.

The Scent:

Well… umm there is really nothing spectacular to note about Red Delicious, because to me it smelled almost 100% like Be Delicious. The same apple note was easily detectable, and the same warm undertone was also present.

It’s sort of a sell out in my opinion. It’s basically Be Delicious, just in a different color. What the hell?

Red Delicious does have a slightly sweeter note to it…but honestly if you are not nose diving for it, you are not even going to recognize the difference at all.

The scent is gorgeous, yes…but it is nearly exact to the first in the DKNY Delicious collection.

Last:

My main issue with Be Delicious was the fact that the gorgeous smell went away in a matter of 20 minutes. I sprayed Red Delicious on, and the scent lasted for just about the same amount of time. It was glorious for it’s 20 minute debut…and then gone.

Overall:

I’m disappointed yet again by DKNY. So many of my friends recommended the brand to me, and when I tried it both times, I was nothing but disappointed when it came to the last.

I’m double disappointed that companies can sell nearly the same scent, after releasing it months earlier, and calling something different.

Red Delicious sells anywhere from $60.00 to $80.00+ depending on the size and store you purchase it at.

It’s another DKNY perfume though; in my opinion, to pass up.
