Pampered Chef Egg Slicer: Durable and Easy to Use and Clean

German Potato Salad, Pampered Chef, Slicing

Do you hate slicing potatoes by hand for potato salad? That is one of the reasons potato salads were only made for special occasions. Well, I am really glad I purchased my Pampered Chef Egg Slicer.

On one of my many occasions of making having to slice 15 pounds of potatoes for my mom’s German Potato Salad recipe, I just did not feel like sitting and slicing all those potatoes. Of course a friend knew I made German Potato Salad and asked me to make it for her daughters graduation party, and of course I said yes. Now with 15 pounds of potatoes sitting in front of me I thought there has to be a faster way to get these sliced. My husband and I usually split the load of slicing. Well this time I searched through my kitchen drawers to see if I could come up with something, when at the last minute I ran across my Pampered Chef Egg Slicer. I opened it up, and noticed I could just slice bigger potatoes by pushing the stainless steel blades down over the potato, grabbing the potato as it went through the blades and holding the potato from the bottom pulling it the rest of the way through the blades. The potatoes came out a little thicker then I usually slice them but, that was OK, they looked great.

Then I decided to have my husband cut the potatoes in 1/4’s or 1/2’s depending on the size of the potato. He cut a bunch of potatoes in 1/4’s and 1/2’s, and I started slicing. Putting the potato 1/2 in the egg slicer and closing the top over slicing the potatoes beautifully. There was no need to have to take the potato out of the slicer, all I had to do was tip the slicer upside down over a bowl and the sliced potato would fall out. I sliced a few more potatoes, and my husband and I decided to do the rest of the potatoes this way too. What would usually take an hour and a half or more to slice potatoes, now took 10 to 15 minutes to slice them with the egg slicer. We could not believe we were ready to add the potatoes to the brine and bacon. Once the potatoes were in the brine with the bacon we decided to let the potatoes soak in the brine over night as they were sliced thicker than I usually have them.

The next morning we took the liner out of the refrigerator and put the it back into the roaster unit. I turned it on 350 for about 1 hour and then turned it down to 300. We sampled the potato salad, it taste good. So now to completely heat the potato salad through and we would be off to the graduation party right after barn chores.

Why had I not thought of using the egg slicer before for slicing potatoes. I do not know but am glad I. Now there is no problem making potato salads when ever we are hungry for them. Typing this article has really made me hungry for some of Mom’s German Potato Salad.

Just to let you know clean up is easy. The top and bottom are hinged together and can be opened flat for easy running under the faucet to get out any potato left behind. The blade unit pops out for easy cleaning, so you can get any particles that might have gotten trapped under the blade. When I am done cleaning the egg slicer I just leave it to air dry and then snap the blades back into place, close the unit and store in my utensil drawer.

I have also used my Pampered Chef Egg Slicer for slicing strawberries and mushrooms and more, use your imagination. It is great for slicing mushrooms for fresh pizza, or strawberries for strawberry short .

I highly recommend getting a Pampered Chef Egg Slicer. I like its versatility, the fact that the unit is heavy plastic and is hinged together so it can be laid flat and that the stainless-steel blades are removable for cleaning.
