Product Review – Intex Inflatable Airbed Model #66971E

Aerobed, Airbed

This is not the camping inflatable mattress that everyone thinks about when they hear inflatable mattress or air mattress. This is the Intex Inflatable Airbed, grey flocking on the frame and the mattress but it also comes in black. You could even put a dust ruffle on the bed but of course no pins. There are now dust ruffles that use elastic or Velcro that would work great on this bed.

When I moved into my new apartment, I did not have much furniture. Matter of fact I did not even have a bed! Indeed, I slept on the floor with tons of blankets. That lasted for three months. I finally got fed up with practically needing a crane of get up in the morning and started looking online for a bed. I had an account with Fingerhut and with the great payment plans, they have that I could afford, I naturally went there first. Well they did not have a real big selection for beds (but they have beautiful bedding!) but I kept on looking. All of a sudden, what pops up in their online catalog but an inflatable bed? What first attracted me was that it was a queen. Since I was nine years old I have slept in a full bed, I was thinking WOW that sounds great! I read all the details about the bed. The Intex inflatable bed is what I was looking at and the unique feature about the bed is that the inflatable mattress fits down in a deep section and the other part of the bed is what is called the frame. Sort of like two beds in one. It also has an elevated part at the head of the bed that serves as a second pillow. The details continued to say it comes with its own duffle bag. I thought about it and thought, why not. In the future if I move, again all I have to do is deflate my bed. No messing around with the frame and since it’s a queen size there wouldn’t be two box springs to move around (king and queen beds have two box springs) and I don’t have to worry about lugging a huge queen mattress, so I ordered the Intex inflatable bed.

When it arrived, outside of the box being incredibly heavy, once I open the box I was amazed to look in and think that this will be a queen bed. The inflatable airbed comes with a portable compressor that plugs in to any wall outlet. The compressor has two nozzles to fit most sizes of inflatable products. The frame has a unique air port that has a lock that turns counter clock wise to open and clockwise to lock and on the outside of the port is a part that has a tab on each side that when you squeeze them together lets the air out for deflating. I laid out the frame in my bedroom and proceeded to inflate the frame. It inflated very fast approximately a little over three minutes. Once the frame was in place, I unfolded the mattress and positioned it into the section where it nests into the frame. The mattress itself has the usual inflatable section with a cap and it turns counter clock wise to let air out and clockwise to let air in. I inflated the mattress that took a little under two minutes. The inflatable airbed measures 22 inches high, 71 inches wide and 95 inches long. Another wonderful feature of the Intex inflatable bed is that you can use regular bedding on the mattress. You do not have to buy special sized linens as you would for a waterbed. You do not even have to worry about having your corners right since all you do is put the fitted sheet on followed by the flat sheet and just tuck the sheet and the blanket down under the mattress and the best part is your sheet and blanket do not pull out! They are held in place by the frame.

The first night I slept on my inflatable bed was like sleeping on a cloud. Not just because I had spent several months sleeping on the floor but because the mattress has what looks like rectangle indents that are called chambers that add to the comfort of the bed. My back and neck have never felt better. I used to constantly fold my pillows under my neck and get my neck all jammed up from doing that. With the elevated section that acts as another pillow, not only did I not have to do that anymore, but my neck and the rest of my body is now in proper alignment.

Another great part was that shortly after I was using my bed I had a furniture delivery. The main door to my apartment enters into the room I now have as my bedroom. All I had to do when the deliverymen came was pick up my bed and stand it against the wall, bedclothes and all. The whole thing stayed in place. Nothing moved!

If any of you out there are in the position I was in, have unexpected guests that are staying for a while, etc. this is the bed of choice.

I strongly recommend the Intex Inflatable Air bed.
