To Make This Simple Vintage Tin Can Frame You Will Need:
Vintage Tin Can (multiple colors)
Scissors
Tin Snip
Tacks
Hammers
The first step is to clean out your painted or vintage tin cans. Simply wash them out with hot water and soap.
Now, use your tin snips to cut open your tin cans. I like to cut up along the back seam after I have used a can opener to remove the bottom of the can.
Use a hammer or rubber maillot to flatten out your vintage pr painted tin can.
Now, use your tin snips to cut the tin can pieces down to size. This will be different for each frame.
I like to cut out a variety of different sizes anyway. You can over lap the vintage tin pieces to create a layered and whimsical pattern.
The first step is to lay the first piece of vintage tin can on the wood frame. Use a tack to attach one corner to the frame. Now, I like to start hammering the tin own to the frame, using hammer or rubber mallot to mold it to the shape of the frame.
Attach moor tacks in each corner of the vintage tin can pieces.
Now, start working over the rest f the frame. Personally, I like to get one full coverage of the wood frame, and then work back with a second layer that covers any gaps.
Tips:
You can always remove the vintage tin can pieces and cut them down to size.
I recommend bending the tin can piece over the back edge of the wood frame and attaching them to the back of the frame as well.
If you are worried about sharp edges on the vintage tin cans you can use a metal file to smooth them out.
This is a great craft for kids as well. Look for some vintage tin cans with apples on them and they can make these simple vintage tin can frames for their teachers.
You can also use your tin snips to cut out letters and shapes in the vintage tin cans. You can spell out names, dates, and even places!
Look for painted vintage and new tin cans that have lots of color. You can cut out solid blocks of color to make hearts, circle’s squares, lines, and more. You can also cut out any whole images painted on to the vintage tin can and hammer it onto your frame.
