Oscar Mayer Ready-to-Serve Bacon is a No-Brainer

Oscar Mayer

I used to pass by it in the grocery store and think, “Who would buy that? The box is so lightweight, and you can’t even see what the stuff looks like! It probably isn’t even REAL bacon!”

Yep, I thought I was getting a better deal because I could see what I was getting. I could lift the back flap on a package of bacon and examine the fat to meat ratio. The packages were definitely heavier and that also made it a better purchase.

Then, one day when I went to purchase a package of bacon, there were none on sale except that ‘fake’ already cooked kind. I compared the price of that bacon to each of the other’s in the aisle. Hmmm, ‘fake’ bacon for $3.15, ‘real’ bacon for $3.99 at the lowest. Why even the turkey bacon was more expensive!

I doubled back and checked out the box of ‘fake’ bacon once more…well, Oscar Mayer made it, a long time trusted brand. It does say 100% Real Bacon, and it is fully cooked. Everyone knows that bacon shrivels up like a raisin when you cook it, and you lose at least 2/3’s of what was there to begin with! So how many slices do you get? 15 slices! Hmm, I’ve never counted the number of slices in regular bacon packages; I’ll go and compare that. 15 in every one of them!

Okay, so what about the calories. (Not that I really cared because, hey, its bacon and I’m going to eat it anyhow! It’s not like I have it that often!) The Oscar Mayer Ready to Serve Bacon has only 70 calories per 4oz serving! I don’t think I even knew that. I remembered from Weight Watchers that 1 slice of bacon was valued at 2pts. But here, I could get 4 whole slices for the same 2pts!

That, on top of not having to deal with the messiness of cooking it and cleaning up afterward, all of which required purchasing another roll of paper towels to absorb all of the grease! And, the grocery bag would be a little lighter to carry!

This was a no brainer! How could I have been so stupid all of these years! Look at the time and energy I wasted for no apparent reason! Oscar Mayer has taken all of that away for me. Imagine the BLTs I would have eaten if I hadn’t felt like dealing with the mess just to prepare 3 slices of bacon for 1 sandwich! Why the possibilities are just endless for this!

When I got home, I found that the precooked bacon was perfect! It was precooked, probably more thoroughly than I did some times. It came in a little plastic tray with slices separated in layers by paper so that you could easily select the number of slices you wanted and reseal the rest just by securing the plastic film back over the tray. RECLOSABLE! Wow, EASY!

As I examined the package I saw that it had a couple of recipes on it. A ‘Spring “garden Bacon Frittata’, and ‘The Neighborhood Club Sub’. The pictures of these were on the back of the box, and their accompanying recipes on the side. I hadn’t thought of anything as elaborate as those. My ideas were much simpler; bacon crumbled on top of baked potatoes, pizza, salad, etc. And now, knowing how easy it is, I could put it on, not just BLTs, but any kind of sandwich! This is the next best think since sliced bread!
