Oscar Mayer Microwavable Bacon VS Jimmy Dean Microwavable Bacon

Bacon, Bacon Explosion, Jimmy Dean, Oscar Mayer

Oscar Mayer foods and Jimmy Dean foods have always been known for their meats and both companies joined the convenience revolution when microwavable bacon hit stores. Oscar Meyers’ Microwavable Bacon and Jimmy Deans Microwavable Bacon both hit store shelves and were immediate successes, who doesn’t love nice crisp bacon, but yet who has the time to fry it up in the morning before a busy and strenuous commute to work, school, or wherever your going. Microwavable bacon was everyone’s answer to having a nice breakfast that’s ready in the blink of an eye, but with two huge companies, Oscar Mayer and Jimmy Dean, competing for your business who do you choose?

Taste is the number one thing you are going to look for in food obviously and microwavable bacon is no different. Oscar Mayer Microwavable Bacon tastes great, although it does leave something to be desired compared to regular fried bacon, but you have to sacrifice taste for convince sometimes. That being said, Oscar Mayer Microwavable Bacon is perfect for making a quick BLT, or placing it on any sandwich. Each piece is ready quick and in a matter of two minuets you could have a plate of delicious bacon ready for breakfast, or a variety of other uses.

Jimmy Dean Microwavable Bacon is quick and easy to fix just like Oscar Mayer’s but lacks the taste that Oscar Mayer’s Microwavable Bacon offers. Jimmy Dean Microwavable Bacon tends to be a bit on the salty side, and the way it is cured leaves bits of “grain” on the bacon. Even when you cook Jimmy Dean’s bacon it just does not ever seem to taste right, like it has been too heavily pre-prepared before packaging. Jimmy Dean Microwavable Bacon still tastes fin on sandwiches and such, but it just can’t compare to Oscar Mayer’s product.

Both Oscar Mayer and Jimmy Dean’s Microwavable Bacon are easy and quick to prepare, but you have to really watch them both for burning. If you leave either companies product in the microwave too long you’ll soon have a mess on your hand with a mass of blackened and charred bacon.

Oscar Mayer Microwavable Bacon has very detailed instructions that will tell you how long to cook each piece of bacon, and how to cook multiple pieces at once. Their cooking time says 5 seconds per piece, however if you like your bacon a bit crispier then add a couple of seconds. Also it’s recommended that you use a paper towel for cooking of you like crispy bacon. The only problem is when you cook multiple pieces, they tend to burn. If you cook eight pieces of bacon, you should have them in the microwave for 40 seconds, however that would easily result in a charred mess. So the limit I usually use is four pieces at a time, or less depending on the strength of your microwave.

Jimmy Dean Microwavable Bacon is very susceptible to burning and often times it will be up to you, the consumer, to figure out just how long to cook each piece. The packages have instructions, but they don’t work. I have burnt entire packages of Jimmy Dean Microwavable Bacon in my many efforts and attempts to figure out just how to cook the bacon effectively. The Bacon never really cooks correctly, it’s both too soft and chewy, or it gets burnt in the middle, there is no happy medium. Most of the time when I cook up some Jimmy Dean Microwavable Bacon I find myself tearing off the burnt portions of the bacon and tossing them out, leaving me with some singed bacon bits rather then nice whole slices of bacon.

Overall I would have to recommend to all consumers that Oscar Mayer Microwavable Bacon is a much better product then Jimmy Dean Microwavable Bacon. Oscar Mayer just seems to have gotten it all right when putting this product together, the taste, the cooking instructions, the convenience, where as Jimmy Dean seems to have gotten everything wrong with their microwavable bacon. Jimmy Dean Microwavable Bacon just is too inconsistent with their cook times and cooking ratios, and the bacon is not all that great as far as taste goes once you finally get it done. If you looking for a quick and easy way to add bacon to your burgers, sandwiches, or just want a piece here or there, I suggest going with Oscar Mayer Microwavable Bacon.
