Gifted and Talented, Mentally Handicapped

Our district serves about 8,300 students in 20 schools. The district covers 5,000 square miles of northeast Wyoming which makes for large spaces between our schools. Our schools are all interested in technology and most have their own homepage.

Enrollment

Enrollment has increased over the past four years and is currently near 8,300 students. Campbell County School District is the third largest school district in Wyoming.

Size

The District encompasses all 5,000 square miles of Campbell County in northeastern Wyoming.

Facilities

The District’s 24 school facilities include 15 elementary schools and 6 secondary campuses.

Staff

The District has approximately 1,700 full-time and part-time employees, divided almost equally between certified and non-certified personnel.

Student/Teacher Ratio

19.6 students to 1 teacher (district-wide average)

Curriculum

Teachers are heavily involved in the curriculum process which calls for continuous monitoring of objectives and materials. A major curriculum update occurs in every subject area at every grade level at least once every six years.

Technology

Campbell County School District has strongly invested in technology with a network of over 3,500 computers, all connected through wireless and leased lines through the Wyoming Equality Network. The network supports curriculum integration into the classroom as well as administrative functions, and custom-designed curriculum web pages allow for easy access of curriculum standards. PowerSchool allows parents to access to their children’s daily grades and attendance.

Aquatic Center

Nationally known for its excellence, this facility regularly hosts local, state, university and national swimming and diving competitions.

Science Center-Adventurarium

The Science Center-Adventurarium is a unique hands-on science center located in Campbell County School District’s Lakeway Learning Center in Gillette, Wyoming. Serving over 6,500 students every school year, the Science Center-Adventurarium serves as an extension to district science classrooms and is also available to the public by appointment.

Planetarium

One of just three planetariums in the state, thousands of students and adults from several school districts visit the C.C.S.D. Planetarium for classes and programs each year.

Special Education

Outstanding special education services are available for students who are educable mentally handicapped, trainable mentally handicapped, behavioral disordered, speech impaired, hearing impaired, visually impaired, physically impaired, learning disabled and home bound or hospitalized.

Gifted and Talented

The District offers the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Programs to students in Grades 3 to 12 who qualify.

Career Technical Education / Tech Prep

This process for school restructuring emphasizes strong academic and technical preparation for all students in Grades 7-14. The program includes school-to-work processes, internships, on-the-job training and Industry in Education Days as well as numerous other opportunities for students.

Alternative School

The Alternative Transitional Center at Westwood High School offers an innovative high school program for students who are in danger of dropping out because of difficulty in regular high school activities and curricula. In addition to the Alternative Transitional Center, Twin Spruce Junior High School and Sage Valley Junior High School also offer an alternative school for junior high age students who are in danger of dropping out of school.

Accreditation

Campbell County School District is fully accredited by the Wyoming State Department of Education, and all schools are North Central Association certified.

Staff Development

The District has a strong staff development department supporting both certified and educational support personnel with credit and non-credit opportunities.

B.E.S.T. Committees

Each school has a Building Excellent Schools Together (B.E.S.T.) Committee, made up mostly of teachers, charged with setting building goals which lead to continuous improvement and effective instruction.

Transportation

Nearly 4,000 students are transported each day to and from school. Campbell County School District buses log over 2 million miles per year including activity trips and field trips.

Early Childhood

Ready 4 Learning” is a Title I-funded pre-kindergarten program for children who are four years of age on or before September 15 of that school year. Children are screened in the spring and begin school in the fall. Contact the Title I office at 686-5786.

The Junior K program is for five-year-old children who, through kindergarten screening, are determined to be best served by receiving a kindergarten preparatory program. The children must be five on or before September 15 of that school year. For more information, please contact Special Services at 686-0097.

Jumpstart is a summer program for children who will be attending CCSD kindergarten in the fall. It is based on student need and teacher recommendation. Contact 686-7760 for more information on this program.

Kindergarten Program

CCSD offers full-day kindergarten. Kindergarten registration is generally held in mid-February at your child’s home school, and kindergarten screening is done in March, also at your child’s home school. Please call your child’s home school if you have questions regarding screening and registration.

CAT Program

CAT is an after-school program which runs daily from 3:30 – 6:00 p.m. in selected schools, on teacher in-service days from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., and in some schools from 7:00 – 8:30 a.m. before school.
