As someone that has recently become health conscious, I am trying to replace calorie and fat packed items my pantry with low calorie and reduced fat options. Snack foods seem to be the hardest things for me to find replacements for, as well as being my weakness when it comes to breaking my diet. As a bonus, the Orville Redenbacher’s Smart Pop Gourmet Popping Corn tastes not only as good as regular popcorn, but actually tastes even better without leaving a greasy aftertaste in your mouth.
Orville Redenbacher’s Smart Pop Gourmet Popping Corn packaging boasts that it is 94% fat free, and it comes in variety of flavors for popcorn lovers everywhere. Orville Redenbacher’s Smart Pop Gourmet Popping Corn seems to pack just as much flavor as regular, full-fat microwave popcorn. Available flavors include: butter, kettle corn, organic butter, movie theater butter and tender white. Additionally, the butter and kettle corn flavors are available in mini bags as well as full size microwaveable bags.
Orville Redenbacher’s Smart Pop Gourmet Popping Corn Butter flavor has a rich, buttery flavor to it, without being greasy like most butter flavored microwave popcorn. This is my favorite of the Orville Redenbacher’s Smart Pop Gourmet Popping Corn product line and I find to it have a refreshing and light flavor.
Orville Redenbacher’s Smart Pop Gourmet Popping Corn Kettle Corn flavor is a perfect mixture of salty and sweet. It tastes no different than the higher calorie version you can get at any fair or outdoor festival. I have also tried the Jiffy Pop reduced fat kettle corn and have found that the Orville Redenbacher’s Smart Pop Gourmet Popping Corn Kettle Corn is the better tasting of the two.
Orville Redenbacher’s Smart Pop Gourmet Popping Corn Organic Butter flavor has a very similar flavor to the Butter option. The only difference I can see is that there is a hint of a lighter flavor to this one. So, if you find the Butter option to be just a little too overpowering, then the Organic Butter option would be better for you.
Orville Redenbacher’s Smart Pop Gourmet Popping Corn Movie Theater Butter flavor actually utilizes a buttery oil blend to get the flavor blend for this option. It definitely has a stronger butter flavor than the Butter and Organic Butter options. It is not greasy, but the flavor is strong. If you like other movie theater butter microwave popcorn options, then this would provide a similar taste without the added fat or calories.
Orville Redenbacher’s Smart Pop Gourmet Popping Corn Tender White flavor is touted as being premium white popping corn with a small amount of butter and salt for toppings. I find this particular option to be a bit lacking in the flavor department. It actually tastes a lot like air popped popcorn tastes before you put any butter or seasonings on it.
While I absolutely love the Orville Redenbacher’s Smart Pop Gourmet Popping Corn product line, I can’t help but think that their flavor options are lacking. I would love to seem them branch out into a reduced fat cheddar or white cheddar flavor, as well as a reduced fat caramel corn flavor.
Orville Redenbacher’s Smart Pop Gourmet Popping Corn is available in grocery stores and mass merchandisers, like Wal-Mart and Target, everywhere and is competitively priced with other microwavable popcorn.
