The month of May brings three fun events to New Smyrna Beach, Florida this year. This friendly beach town offers fun in the sun for the entire family at affordable prices. With gas prices soaring, residents and tourists can find relief from pump-pain by enjoying local events.

Cinco de May Celebration in New Smyrna Beach

New Smyrna Beach kicks off the month with Cinco de Mayo Celebration on Thursday, May 5th. Hosted on infamous Flagler Avenue, this colorful celebration brings an array of food vendors from several Volusia County restaurants. There will be live entertainment and dancing in the streets from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Stop by Clancy’s Cantina for authentic Mexican fare. Enjoy a cold, frothy beverage from one of the many beer gardens. Indulge in some of the best ice cream in town at Treats on the Beach while strolling along the boardwalk. The Cinco de Mayo event is free to attend and certain to bring smiles to everyone’s faces.

Buckler’s Craft Fair at Volusia County Fairgrounds

Buckler’s Craft Fair returns to New Smyrna Beach on Saturday, May 14th. This two-day event brings artists and craftsmen from southeastern Florida to display their wares at Volusia County Fairgrounds.

Buckler’s Craft Fair is known as “the place” to find unique gifts and one-of-a-kind items. Visitors can find a vast array of folk art and country crafts, artwork, nautical art, quilts, scrapbooking items, home décor, patriotic gifts, orchids and plants, handcrafted jewelry, personalized items, pet gifts, candles, painted glass, and the always popular yard art. Event hours are Saturday, May 14th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, May 15th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $6 adults and $1 kids and is good for both dates with a hand stamp. Attendees who bring a can of food can buy one admission and get one free. Buckler’s will also be giving away $20 shopping sprees every hour throughout the event.

Volusia County Fairgrounds are located at S.R. 44 and I-4. Those traveling on I-4 will take Exit 118 and head east on S.R. 44 for one block. Those traveling via I-95 will take Exit 249B and travel west on S.R. 44 for approximately 5 miles.

FishStock 2011 – The Total Saltwater Experience

Enjoy the 9th annual FishStock event in New Smyrna Beach from May 26-29. Hosted at Riverside Park, this four-day family-friendly event provides introduction to fishing and water sports while raising environmental awareness.

Presented by Sport Fishing magazine, FishStock has become renowned as “one the largest fishing tournaments and festivals in the nation.” This year will include the Redfish-Trout Fishing Challenge and Striker Offshore Tournament; FishStock 5K and Family Fun Run; KidStock fishing seminars; live entertainment; and plenty of tasty beach food from local restaurants and food vendors.

Attendance and parking for FishStock 2011 is free. Registration for FishStock 5k and Family Fun Run is $20. Entry fee for the Redfish-Trout Fishing Challenge is $100 or $450 for the Striker Offshore Tournament.
