New Movie Releases in March 2010

New Movie Releases

Whether you want to travel through time or imagination, laugh or sit riveted on the edge of your seat, March will provide the film for you. There are a lot of movies scheduled for theatrical release in March 2010. Here’s a look at the movies that should be coming to cinemas in March 2010. (These are scheduled release dates for the USA.)

Alice in Wonderland

You know the story of Alice in Wonderland, but you’ve never seen it like this before. Twisted genius Tim Burton reinvents the Lewis Carroll classic by making Alice a nineteen-year-old who once again falls down the rabbit hole into Wonderland. Despite the basis on a children’s book, Alice in Wonderland is definitely not just for children anymore. The cast looks superb for their roles, including Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter (How many movies have Johnny Depp and Tim Burton actually made together? I think we’ve all lost count, but it’s still excitingly weird and wonderful when they work together.)

Green Zone

If you told me nothing else about the film, I would be interested in Green Zone knowing that it stars Matt Damon, and is directed by Paul Greengrass (who previously directed Damon in the Bourne films). This is a very political movie; it’s set in Baghdad during beginning of the Iraqi War. American operatives must untangle a web of hostility, political intrigue, and conspiracies to try to discover the truth. It looks intense.

How To Train Your Dragon

Based on the popular children’s book by Cressida Cowell, How To Train Your Dragon is a children’s fantasy film in a world full of Vikings, dragons, and other fantastic beings. The movie is made by Dreamworks, and is computer animated and 3D, so it should be a big hit with kids. It’s an adventure story, but it’s also a story about friendship and doing the right thing. Children will identify with Hiccup, the main character, who feels like he just can’t live up to expectations. This is a good one to see as a family, especially if your kids have read the book.

The Bounty

I’ve also seen this movie called The Bounty Hunter, but they seem to have decided on the shorter title. This movie stars Gerard Butler as a bounty hunter who finds and brings in people. He finds out that his next assignment is a woman who has skipped bail, only the woman turns out to be his ex-wife (played by Jennifer Aniston). After that it’s supposed to become a romantic comedy. Director Andy Tennant’s films are unpredictable; he’s directed hits like Ever After and Sweet Home Alabama, but also complete disasters like Fools Rush In. I have a feeling that this is going to be one of his less memorable films, but hopefully it will prove me wrong.

Other films scheduled for release in March 2010 include: Our Family Wedding, Hot Tub Time Machine, Clash of the Titans, Hard 10 (also known as She’s Out Of My League), and Letters to God.
