Keep the tissue on standby and constantly blow the nose washing hands before and after this process. Hand washing is imperative to avoid contaminating others as well as making the condition much worse internally. The ailment of a sinus infection may cause the sufferer to go through at least one if not two boxes of tissue. Maintain a constant practice of keeping the nose clear which will alleviate pain caused from clogged nasal passages. If the nose gets extremely sore from blowing, consider applying a small amount of Vaseline to the nostrils to soothe the chapped skin.

Steam the Sinus Infection Away

When the sinus infection is at its worst, the nose will typically be so stuffed, that a good steam is required to loosen the passages. A good hot shower is necessary to start the day, but the steam treatment does not stop there. Consider extra steam sessions throughout the day by holding a tower over the head and hovering over a hot pot of boiled water or sink full of very hot water. The towel draped over the head will contain the steam and allow it to seep into the sinuses when breathing in deeply. Skip the trip to the health club steam room to avoid contaminating your neighbors.

Using Apple Cider Vinegar to Treat a Sinus Infection

First signs of a serious cold or deep congestion may preempt the need for some good old fashioned apple cider vinegar. Simply take two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and mix into 8 ounces of water. Drink or slam one of these concoctions in the morning and again at night. Repeat this process for a few days or until the phlegm thins out and becomes transparent. This is a very effective and fast treatment that will make the infection less severe. In addition to the twice a day ACV treatment, work in clear liquids into the daily diet and avoid any thick beverages that could serve as triggers for thickening the mucus.

These are a few simple natural ways to treat a sinus infection. When in doubt of the treatment, always defer to doctor or nurse practitioner. Prolonged sinus infections can be a very serious matter if left untreated so it is best to schedule a visit to a physician if the ailment is prolonged.
