My Favorite OKC (Oklahoma City) Activities

Chihuly, Dale Chihuly

I have lived in the Oklahoma City area my entire life and there are so many fun things to do! My husband and I love to attend concerts, go to museums, and see animals at the zoo. Even though a few of these activities are expensive, they are always worth the price! If you need some ideas for things to do, here are four of my favorite OKC activities.

The first activity is Rock Town, located in down town OKC. The coolest part about Rock Town is that it used to be a grain elevator, one of several that are famous Oklahoma landmarks! We do not go very often, because the pricing is on the high end, but when we do go, it’s a good workout! A day pass is $14 and there is a mandatory $6 safety class for beginners. Don’t worry – it’s a short class! The price includes shoes, harness, and use of the entire facility. It is a great place to get some exercise or practice team- building! Another place that we like to go is the zoo! Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for kids. What I like best about the Oklahoma City Zoo is the discount days! Right now, cans of Dr. Pepper are labeled with free zoo admission which are goof for the rest of 2012. There are many animals to see at the zoo. You can even feed Lorikeets or watch the sea lions perform. They recently trained the elephants to paint, which is part of their new and amazing elephant habitat! Don’t miss out! The Museum of Art is another one of our favorites. We have been many times and can’t get enough of the Dale Chihuly collection! I promise, it is worth the $12 adult and $10 children tickets. What’s great about this museum is that there are new exhibitions every month. Right now they have a new glass exhibition and “The Art of Golf” exhibition. They even have a museum school with camps and workshops. If you can, drive by at night, when the large blown glass structure in the window lights up for a spectacular display! Last, but not least is the Chesapeake Energy Area (formerly known as the Ford Center). This past year, we saw the Transiberian Orchestra show! It was fantastic! Also, Thunder basketball games and other performances and conferences are held here. In October, there will be a live Batman show and a Carrie Underwood concert. Ticket prices vary depending on the event. Whatever you see at this arena, you will enjoy it! (http://www.chesapeakearena.com/index.cfm)

These are just a few of my favorite things to do in OKC. Whether you live in the area or are coming from out of town, I hope that you are able to enjoy them as well! As Galen Culver says, “Is this a great state or what?”
