Moto Q Windows Mobile Motorola Cell Phone Review

I hate my Moto Q Windows Mobile Motorola phone.

My husband and son picked out the Moto Q when I needed a new phone. I told them I only wanted the basics, a phone. I didn’t need a gadget that could sing, access the internet, take photographs, record playground fights, play music, and do the rumba. I just wanted a phone, simply a phone.

I got the Moto Q Windows Mobile Motorola. Just because I hate it, doesn’t mean it isn’t the right phone for you. It is a good phone, but it has so many features I will never figure out how to use them. Furthermore, I don’t need most of them.

Motorola’s Moto Q Windows Mobile Standard is four inches wide and approximately 3 ½ inches thick. It is less than ½ inch thick, but knowing how often I fail to charge my cell phone I was given the larger battery. That adds about ¼ inch to the Moto Q’s thickness.

I don’t like the large phone because it feels like I’m holding a small laptop to my ear. Forget holding it between your shoulder and your ear to free up your hands. It is too thin for that, but then, that’s what Bluetooth is for.

The large battery has worked out well. I charge the phone approximately every 2nd or 3rd day. It isn’t so hard to remember when I don’t have to charge it every night as a part of my evening routine. Who has time for gadgets at bedtime?

My husband’s and son’s reasons for purchasing the Moto Q Windows Mobile Motorola phone were valid. As a writer they knew I liked having access to the internet as much as possible. The Moto Q facilitates quick internet access, for an extra $30 a month you can access the web via Internet Explorer or Opera.

The cost isn’t so bad, but trying to type in web addresses and search for information is difficult for me. Favorite pages can be saved and your homepage can be personalized if you need access to breaking news, sports information, or stock prices.

The keyboard layout is standard. I like that. Who has time to push through three or four times to get to the letter you need when typing an email address or text? By the time I typed a text on my old phone, I could have been to visit the recipient and returned home.

The downside of the keyboard is the size of the keys. I told my son that above all else I wanted the numeric keys separated. I’ve dialed too many wrong numbers on phones with numeric keys all bunched up together. He has a similar Motorola phone and before we opened it he assured me the keys were larger than the keys on his phone. They were, by about a millimeter. Unless your fingertips are the size of needle points it isn’t easy to type quickly.

The operating system on Motorola’s Moto Q Windows Mobile is a Smartphone Operating System v.6. That means absolutely nothing to me, but if you need a phone that enables you to store documents, access the internet, and perform other business functions this phone has the power and capability.

Business and personal users will appreciate Outlook Mobile which comes standard on the Moto Q. It allows you to store and sort messages and emails. There’s plenty of room for contact information and the ability to sort information by company, names, relationships, etc.

Easy synchronization on the Moto Q Windows Mobile phone allows you to synchronize with your computer or palm device to upload calendars, lists, and other tasks. There is a notepad if you can remember what you want to write long enough to key it into the little keyboard.

The phone also has the ability to transfer media, including songs, photos, and short recordings. The 2 megapixel camera isn’t bad. It has 8x zoom, but don’t let that fool you. The closer you zoom, the more blurry the picture. I haven’t tried the video recorder. So far, every time I turn on the phone I take a photo of my leg, the floor, or my foot. The images of my feet and legs are sharp and clear, so I give the camera a five star rating as far as cell phone cameras go. It also comes with easy USB links which allow you to upload your photos directly to your computer.

I find it difficult to hear on the phone without using the built in full-duplex speaker phone. The only problem with that is that everyone within ¼ mile can listen in on the conversation. I got a Bluetooth to skirt that problem and have had no trouble connecting the Bluetooth device with the Moto Q cell phone.

Motorola’s Moto Q Windows mobile phone functions great. It is the perfect tool for executives or businessmen on the run. It isn’t exactly what I had in mind for quick notes and phone calls, but if you are considering the Moto Q for its perks. You will not be disappointed.
